Sorry I don't have pics, but let me be the first to report on the Texas Regional in Frisco, Texas. I had the pleasure to drive down yesterday to what has been my first regional NCRS flight judging meet (been to a couple of nationals).
The meet just couldn't have been any better. First of all, the hospitality of the Texas chapter members met the expectation of any person who recognizes and appreciates mid-western values.
The venue (Embassy Suites hotel with attached 90,000 square foot meeting space) couldn't have been topped anywhere in America. The facilities were beautiful, the amenities were first class, and the convenience was top-shelf. Excellent choice by the Texas chapter.
A very good gathering of vintage Corvettes showed up, and I had the pleasure of leaning in during 1967 bigblock judging on Friday morning. It just couldn't have been a better collection of cars for interested observers to learn from, as the best of the best were well represented, yet a few years that perhaps had been a little "over/over-restored" were also on display for all to draw critical knowledge from.
I sat in on two very interesting seminars. In the first, advanced judging school with bodyless restored chassis present, the breath of experience shared by both Gary Chesnut and Terry McManmon was as good as it gets. No single question was dismissed from those there to learn, and the explanations were put on everyone's distinct level of technical understanding.
I also sat thru 1966 team leader Bill Calorico's midyear fan clutch seminar and found it absolutely fascinating. Bill crammed years of intensive experience into a "45 minute to hour long" fun, ...hands-on experience. I've messed with GM fan clutches since 1969, and learned more in the first half hour than in my previous 40 years. Bill was such a pleasure to learn from. Such a positive experience.
I've heard posted on these thread at least a thousand times, that "it's not just the Corvettes, it's the people". The great folks in the Texas chapter showed the attendees firsthand that it truly is in fact, ...the people.
My hat's off to the Texas Chapter for what I consider a perfect regional meet. See you guys again next year in Frisco! Hope my Corvette can attend with me next year!
