    Cars in Texas

On my way to New Orleans, I had the pleasure to visit Brady Como.

He had an Duntov 99.3 , 1958 Corvette along with some great other GM cars.

      New Orleans

My New Orleans visit and my hosts Joe and his lovely wife Anna , made it a visit to remember. We had gone to the WW ll Museum, French Quarter and Museum of Art. Food was outstanding.

Also Roy Brotherhood and his friend Doug, were in NO scouting for an up coming Corvette trip next year with 9 couples. I had already stayed with 3 others from previous trips (Bob, Jeff and Jerry)

          Here is the Florida Plan

          Hi you all, (southern influence)

I have made it to my Dad's house in Ocala. I am spending the day with my step mom and brother. I will also use this day to catch up on posts. (unsecured wireless from a neighbor).

As stated, I am trying not to travel too far from this location. Post or PM me to plan any visits. If some of you can come to this area or a central location nearby, I will stay in the Ocala area till Monday, when I will leave for Savanna Georgia and Charleston NC. Stay in Charleston on Monday night and then on to KY and Bowling Green as shown on my map.

I am sorry for missing some of you along the way, but I am having some physical issues that have been getting in the way.

Hope to have a great remainder of my ride and I thank everyone who has helped me on the " Journey"

          Jack

              Florida Swing

I visited with Joe and Nancy, (cor24vette) in Santa Rosa Beach area.
Joe has owned many corvettes (24) over the years, and shared some of his stories with me.

He also rescued me on I 10 , about an hour out on my way to Ocala, a bolt holding my alternator broke, and Joe brought one to me. We fixed it on the road and off I went. I little later in some little town on old 90 , my muffler clamps came lose and the local boys fixed me right up.

A reporter from the local paper came and interviewed me also.

And now, the rest of the story

A while ago, I had posted pictures of the Navy Wings on my glove box, and the decal on the window. I had bought the car in 1970 from a Navy pilot (original owner) going to Nam. I still do not know what happen to him.

While at my brothers house in Ocala, (he is 25 years younger) he brought out this pin and said , he found it in one of my boxes that I had stored at my parents house, when he was a little kid. I must have taken it out of the glove box some 40 years ago and forgot about it.

It seems to be the uniform pin. Any information on the pin would help.

After all these years I have one more part of the original owners life in the car.

Jack's agreed to meet everyone Saturday (tomorrow) at Old Town (US 192 in Kissimmee - where the NCRS show is every January) at about 3pm. That'll give us all time to relate stories, down a few adult beverages, have dinner and do the Saturday night cruise.

Yup - Naval Aviator wings - always worn above the left breast pocket.

Not only Naval Aviator's wings, but the coveted Gold wings. These are the type earned by the "nose gunners" or pilots.

Interesting the seller left those behind. A little unusual considering the hard work to earn them.

Those of us in the USAF wore the Silver Wings.

Great pictures Jack...stay well and enjoy the rest of your trip.

                            Regards,

When in the AF I had a buddy in the USN who had a second pin he wore on his old canvas flight cap---flaps up.
