Re: What can I expect being an Observer Judge at a NCRS event?
In all seriousness and all joking aside I really need to learn what the NCRS is all about. It will be this trip that will utimately decide my goal of my 1971 corvette I just purchased. I was so very careful in finding my classic car. My long search yielded me a car with so much potential. I have learned from others via success stories and disasters. I refused to be a victim to the latter. There is so much riding on making such a purchase.
For me, when it comes to these older cars I favor originality. Although to my knowledge my car has never been judged (i do wonder as it does have a NCRS sticker on the rear window and a battery cut off switch) that account for bonus points at a judging meet???? I think maybe I would like to take it in that direction one day.
This meet in Kissimmee is very important. One goal is of this meeting is to see the people of the NCRS and see what this family is like and how well everyone interacts.
Then of course are the events (judging schools, etc). Then see how the judging process works (OJ). And of course to park my car in the Sportsman lot and network and make connections and show off my pride and joy.
Right now I am enjoying the heck out of my 1971 car. It is being driven regularly (not as a daily driver) but quite often and she is a keeper. Based on what I see and experience in Kissimmee will really help me decide how to go forward. There are many scenarios. Perhaps, I will get it judged at a chapter meet to experience the judging process as an owner and then decided where to go from there. Time will only tell. No matter what, one thing is certain, I found my dream car and I want to decide where to take her! Thank you all for your input these past several weeks. It has really helped a lot.- Top

Re: What can I expect being an Observer Judge at a NCRS event?
Yeah Mr. Shorts did look it over and he felt it was solvent flashing out of the paint. The idea I get, but the paint is 26 years old so Im not sure if that is what it really was, then again I have no idea. What was interesting was there was a freshly painted (Red) '63 coupe staged behind us and a bubble formed on the hood where the small block stinger and the rest of the hood meet. Solvent flash in that situation I understand. It really was bizarre, hopefully we wont see that again anytime soon.

Re: What can I expect being an Observer Judge at a NCRS event?
Back in the late 70's had one of my Corvettes repainted in Lacquer. A few years (could have been 10 years) later the car had to be parked outside with a car cover on it. After a rain one night the next day took the cover off to dry it. Found a milky haze and a few bubbles very small in the paint and after a few days in the sun it disappeared. Just wonder if moisture worked its way into the paint causing the bubbles. Stopped using the car cover till it returned to the garage. Did you also have some haze in the paint?- Top

Re: What can I expect being an Observer Judge at a NCRS event?
My 8 year old Rally Red lacquer paint job on my '67 developed a large bubble (about an inch across) on the front nose just to the side of the headlight bucket. It had sat outside for a car show in bright, hot sun all day. There is no telling what causes these things, but seem to happen too often with lacquer paint.Big Tanks In the High Mountains of New Mexico- Top

Re: What can I expect being an Observer Judge at a NCRS event?
Mark,
Wow have I enjoyed reading this thread; you have learned much here. I offer a short summary: Mr Shorts is also ID'ed as "Ballard", "the real deal" and "issues"; with some sorta blond hair; he will be easy to find; you will like him and learn from him. Go to the judge school on Thursday and introduce yourself and we can all cheer for you; OJ on Fri; attend Terry's AJS on Sat, as he invited you and you will leave Kissimmee with 6 judge points on your way to Master Judge and MANY learning experiences.
Now go have fun we all started some where...it's just some got old but we ALL are still having fun.Dr. George

Re: What can I expect being an Observer Judge at a NCRS event?
Marc, I think you are approaching things with the right mind set. One more bit of advice I'd have for you. Before you make any BIG changes to the car, have it run through a Chapter Flight event. This will serve as a base line. From there, you can look at the different judging awards that are available and see what you'd like to do with it. Your Chapter Judging Chairman is a great resource for you. Reach out to them if you have any further questions.Chris Enstrom

And then decide what to do from there. BIG CHANGES is something that does concern me. The car works so well now and my guess is that you may end up putting things on the car that do not work as well as what is on it currently. I hope I am making sense. Thanks for your input!- Top
