Re: I finally found my 1971 Corvette!

I have just learned that the previous owner has tons of original items on this car. He found out a bought a 1971 radio and he stopped me wondering
if I would be interested in aquiring the original stuff such as the vinyl interior, carpet, radio, springs, brakes, rotors, etc etc etc.....it doesn't
stop there. I told him I want it all! He is generating a list of items he has. I cannot believe this. It just keeps getting better!

Well there you go, a contact to have radios restored. I just learned that the original radio is on the list of items the previous owner still has. I am going to take it, and simply put the one that I have not received yet in the mail up for sale. I rather have the actual original radio in my car. There are a lot of other items that I will be getting from the previous owner. I am so glad I made contact with him. All of these items will go into storage and if and when I am ready to do flight judging I will have these items ready to go.

Congrats from a proud 28 year owner of a 1971 LS5 and welcome to the LS5 club! You can't go wrong with Big Block power. I like the PO2s and I think they add a little more class to a classic design. I hope you have as many years of enjoyment with yours as we have with ours. Drive it and enjoy it.

Thank you Phil! I am so glad to be part of the club. Although the car was delivered a week ago it didn't come to my house until yesterday. I really drove it for the first time on yesterday for any length of time and it is a total dream to drive. I logged in dozens and dozens of miles and the car ran GREAT! It took me a bit to "learn" how to use the manual brakes which turns out work pretty darn well if you KNOW how to use them. I most certainly did put on those P02s. I agree, they look classy! Here is what theylooklike:

Marc, the PO2s look great, I've had them on a 1970 and I have a set for my '71 and while they are heavy, I've never had any wheel balance problems. Best of luck with your radio install.

Since my goal for now is to enjoy the car and show it (eg. Sportsman and local events) I thought I would get some P02s for her. When I found out how easy it is to change the trim and rings out for the P02s I had to have them. I think they LOOK great on these cars, especially the big blocks. It is a personal preference. Some love them and some hate them. It isn't like I am painting my original 1971 973 paint to SPEC Tuxedo Black. I want to have a little excitement with the car and really dress her up without doing significant irreversible harm. I picked these up for around $175 bucks and that is for ALL four of these. Are they perfect right off the shelf? No but they are VERY VERY nice and since I will be driving the car they are perfect for what I want to use them for. I hope others here like P02s as much as I do. I plan to have them on when I go to Kissimmee.

I did my own polishing of these. Not bad for an amateur here.

Congratulations Marc, I have a 71 also with a small block and I like to change out the trim rings and top hats for my spare set of PO2s for a different look. I have owned mine since 1997 and I am the third owner of a low mileage 4sp,ps,pb,ac, white with blue interior. I like to drive it so the miles are bumping 100000 now but it is a great car and I enjoy it a lot. Welcome.
                It's a good life!

Thank you so much! Yes I really like the classy look. I took my car to it's first official showing. It feels great to see how many people swarm to the car to get a good look at it. The best thing is I am the one that gets to drive it. It is so much fun to drive the car. I really drove the car a lot over the weekend. Time to give her a rest. I am looking forward to bringing the car to the NCRS meet in Kissimmee. Best regards.

I have had this car in my possession for a week now and it just keeps getting better and better. I cannot behind I found this car. The wait and search was so worth it. I am registered for kissimmee and will be doing sportsman showing. Look for it there. I also registered for observer judging to learn about the process. Very exciting indeed. Happy holidays everyone.

In 3 weeks, it will be exactly 49 years ago that I felt as excited as Marc is/was, driving the Daytona Blue/Blue SWC home from Minneapolis. Good to know that the Spirit is still out there, striking the sometimes unsuspecting.........Go For It, Marc.

Hello Ed! This is great and would love to participate in this. Thank you for this! I am going to have to come up with something. It will take some time as I tend to overwrite stuff so I will have to shave off all the nonsense. LOL! So that will leave you only a little to edit out. Thanks, I appreciate this. It is a LONG story but I will do my best to keep it interesting and not dwell on things. I am going to send you a PM with some initial information. Best regards.

Thanks, Mark! I continue to drive this corvette like no tomorrow and enjoying her. She drinks gasoline like a camel but when you have a car like this who cares? I never really pushed her until today. I didn't take it to the limit but my passenger asked me to take it easy as the car is performing amazingly strong. I had one of those evil grins on my face knowing that I have totally mastered what it takes to drive a 454 corvette and safely of course. I do love my other vette, the 2008 triple black convertible but I feel like the red 454 is my mistress. I feel guilty. Should I seek counseling for this? LOL!

That's exactly right!!! I remember my search for my dream '73 454 coupe, seems like just yesterday (almost 24 years ago, yikes!), but the enthusiasm never fades. Sure hard to beat that big block rumble! Nice '71, congrats.
