Re: I finally found my 1971 Corvette!

Thanks Gerard. I gotta say I really think they add a "classy" look to the car. You either love them or hate them. I have found this out. I think it is about a 50/50 split. I heard all kinds of opinions. PO2's looking better with redlines, all chrome bumpers look better with rally wheels, P02's are so hard to clean, P02's are look the best, it goes on and on and on. hahaha all I know is I love them on the car and if I want to I can so easily go back and put on the trim and rings on the rally wheels. No biggie. I will be leaving them on while in Kissimmee. They look great on this car.

In preparation for next month's drive to Kissimmee does anyone know if there us a front mask that fits a 1971 corvette? I have seen them for late model c3s but not for 1971. This is to protect from rock chips and bugs. I dont need anything fancy. Just something for the ride. Is there one and where can I get one?

Be careful - they often rub your paint and cause more problems than then fix. I'd not recommend one in your case.

Several years ago in the Restorer there was a story of a member who used the blue easily removable masking tape to protect his car on a cross-country drive, and if I recall it worked well.
However, if I were you (and I have been as my cars have driven many miles to events) I'd forget it and just drive.

+1 Life is too short to mess with those things. A few bugs are no problem, they clean right off if you have a good wax. And the occasional stone chip will happen, get some touchup paint. I had the same angst over my new 2012 ZR1, after looking at all the options, I chose a good coat of wax. But, on my '67 when I run radials (which are much, much worse at grabbing gravel to throw behind the wheels at your paint, and I live up a gravel road), I did opt for the clear plexiglas mud flaps held on my paper clasps. Works great, and that was where I got all my chips anyway, the front was never a problem.

Hi Marc,I've got a new set of the clear mud flaps that Michael mentioned above, I've never used them and I'll be glad to give them to you if you want them. Just PM or email your address to me at philip.white@sbcglobal.net and I'll mail them to you. Also, I agree, a good wax is the best protectant. I bought a front mask a few years ago from Mid-America and after looking it over I never used it and ended up selling it a couple years later on ebay.

I just booked a condo on hotwire for about 50 bucks a night plus tax/fees. It is a great deal. There are still 3 left at that price if anyone is interested. I am leaving Thursday morning in the wee hours of the morning and headed right to the event. Are you going up Thursday morning? I have to work on Wednesday and didn't want to do trip late at night so going up Thursday. Thanks.
Marc, I have my PV on Thursday. Therefore, I have to leave on Wednesday.

What mask? What was I even talking back? Never heard of it. Wax sounds good! Thanks for the replies. I sent you email, Phil.

Ed, thanks for the reply. If I could, I would leave on Wednesday but it would have to be very late. I don't think I can swing it. If there is anyone else who is driving up from south fla early Thursday let me know. Would be great to run up together to kissimmee. marc

Well, after some research and a search I have know completed my life size Disney Corvette.

I have the correct period correct plate with 7W coding with Orange County where Disney is located. Disney opened October 1971 and the cars they have on their grand prix raceway resemble 1971 corvettes. I also have my Disney front plate as well. I wonder if they will let me track my car on their mini raceway?

                    I'm ready for ORLANDO/KISSIMMEE!!!!!!
