If this every happens, maybe we could creat a Lost & Found section for the orphaned original engines, POP, paper work, etc. like the Camaro group has done. Their post stay on their site of other Camaro owners to search or add to it.There are lots of NCRS members who have several of these items and would like to reunite them with the present owner. I realize that this would be a blow to alot of matching number motors but the chance that someone might get their original back would outweigh this in my mind. There seems to have been no interest in setting this up in the driveline.

I am so glad to hear this. I have a long list of orphaned items and so do many of my friends such as Mr. Campbell #2299. I presented the orphan idea to NCRS officers in about 1995 or so and was told "good idea" and then asked if I wanted to run it. I was hoping NCRS would dedicate a couple pages of the Driveline to listing orphaned parts, docs etc. instead of it being spread out all through the Driveline. Plus, a condensed listing by year/serial number would encourage more people to list what they have in their possession. I have seen the reuniting of a couple motors from the lists some of my friends have shared with each other. You talk about happy owners! I am also glad to hear this is on the table because my son, who is a programmer, and I have been working on a special web site for this. We even have a web name purchased. As far as I am concerned, this is one of the greatest contributions to our hobby that NCRS can do. Let's get the orphaned stuff reunited in our lifetime.....before our kids inherit it and toss it in the trash or make a deposit to the junk yard for boat anchor manufacturing.

I think it's a great idea. I would be willing to pay an extra subscription fee to have access to a "for sale" section. I would much rather buy a part from NCRS member than ebay.

Did not...kinda wish I had, but I was working a stressful job and did not need more on top of that. Think how many motor stamps may have been saved from the decking machine if this had been done that far back.

I have a long list of personal "woulda, shoulda, coulda" items too, but I took that "want to help with it" challenge from the BoD in 1984 and never looked back. I do understand all the reasons not to, however, because I have missed a few not having to do with Corvettes and NCRS.

I realize I'm hijacking the thread which is bad forum etiquette but... while we're on this subject. We have a lot of friendly chatter in the technical forum, which is nice since we are an organization of people with common interests and friendships should be formed as a consequence. But quite frankly, it's annoying to sift through that noise when in search of technical information. It also has a "click-ish" feel to it and when I think back to when I first joined NCRS it hesitated to create my first post and ask my first question because I was getting the vibe that this was a forum where only long-time members are welcome. It would be nice if we had a separate "general discussion" forum for that friendly conversation among members. Just say'in.

I am really pleased that this item has come up. I have many different 1960, 61, 67 corvette parts that need to be sold...This forum would allow an opportunity for members who are looking for certain parts to connect...Great Idea...Hope it goes through...otherwise...it's Ebay and Craigslist and Corvette Forum...

We have a very gray membership and many are not computer literate. Many can't type and are intimidated by the keyboard. A book in hand is still good and has purpose. But, NCRS will loose the attention of those who are growing up with computers and the "now" mentality. Hemmings has survived the change....they have a web site to sell and their monthly magazine is still pretty much as thick as the one in the 80's.

There has been many referrals here to the Corvette Forum's operation which I use too. I like the splitting of topics...parts for sale, cars for sale, and a BS section to catch all. I just did a sort on the CF parts for sale by highest views (hits). Numbers of 1,000, 2,000, 5,000 and even up to 11,000 on a given item are seen. Maybe NCRS can't do that because CF is free, but the point is interest of that level is out there. This can bring in new members.

I can understand the money issue...that is always at the forefront of any organization. How do you change with the times to keep and attract membership and protect revenue. If you put a program in place with volunteers that is great, but volunteers can quit and then you need money to buy replacements or terminate the program. I hope the officers can find a plan to offer the sales site.

Gentlemen I must concur with the lack of data to support and arguement in either direction. The Magazine is hard to dig thru. if the web could serve the same purpose it would be better. Anthing that is quicker, better and cheaper works in ths day and age. The printed word is unfortunately fading. Bryan

I guess I don't really care since there are so many places to see stuff for sale. But if it is a go I will not even look at it if the prices are not mandatory in the listings. As it is I don't look at the listings in the "Driveline" because of that. I only look at the meet information. But I do enjoy "Restorer" magazine.
