Re: POLL: would you like to see a for sale section on the forum?
I do not like the Corvette Forum approach, it is a cumbersome excuse of an alternate to fleebay or clist and a complete waste of time since the advert doesn't go away if the guy sells two or three things and still has a few left, they delete within the advert, you have to look through a bunch of other peoples PM sent, comments and just junk comments to see if something is still available, etc etc.
Very messy.
The way to do it has to be different, for example if an item is sold, it has to be turned off and or gone, like the clist or fleebay. So one is not looking at all that garbage.
The only thing good about CF is it is mandatory to set a price, so the fishing expedition is not permitted. To replace the printed adverts, not clear how to do that, on line adverts are a jump over while printed ads still get attention.
One key reason the membership wants an on line form is to get first chance at something that is in the printed version, it is not to read the adverts from the major parts suppliers "sponsors".
There needs to be a balance between the two.- Top

Re: POLL: would you like to see a for sale section on the forum?
Couple thoughts....
The NCRS Driveline is 147 pages.
Roughly 25 pages were taken up by member type free ads and roughly 58 pages by paid advertisers.
Adding pages in magazines costs money. By removing 1/3-1/2 of the member ads NCRS could reduce their overhead.
I for one would opt out of the printed driveline/The Corvette Restorer and would want the digital version sent to me via email. With the digital version you could make it interactive and allow advertisers to track their response to the ads they purchase. On our ads I would direct folks to a different "landing page" and see what traffic it generates.
I think NCRS would be very surprised at the amount of folks have email and use it regularly. 98% of the Insurance business I write use email. When I was at Kissimmee I did well over 100 quotes for Insurance and only 2 people did not have email.
Because we use vBulletin here on the NCRS forum there are several classified ad systems that integrate well with what we currently have:
http://www.photopost.com/class/ $89-$129
http://www.vbulletin.org/forum/showthread.php?t=231942- FREE
http://www.enthusify.com/ - not available yet, but looks to be promising
The easiest thing to do would be to create subforums (C1 For Sale, C2 For Sale, C3 For Sale, C4 For Sale) and let folks have at it. have a moderator in each section that would close down threads that are past a certain date or when the items are sold.
This could easily pay for itself in no time.Last edited by Adam B.; February 6, 2013, 09:41 AM.Adam Boca

I'd also like to have a place to post the many Chevrolet issued items that belong to specific cars that I have in my collection. Maybe we could re-unite these historical documents with the cars.
My only outlet has been Ebay and Corvette Forum and that is not the way it should be.
I'm sure Advertising money can be recieved but if not I'll support it financially as others have mentioned.
Lets make it happen this time.- Top

Yes. Not everyone will use it because not everyone is actively buying parts, but those who are will use it. I scan the one on the Corvette Forum most daysDon Harris
Current: 67 convertible Marina Blue L79
Former: 60 Red/Red, 2x4, 245hp (Regional and National Top Flight 2013), 66 coupe Nassau Blue, L79 (Chapter and Regional Top Flight 2017)- Top

Maybe this has already been done or planned- I think the question needs to be posed in the Driveline, directing readers to go to the website, register as a user and vote in the poll.- Top

Re: POLL: would you like to see a for sale section on the forum?
Of course, I am all in with the for sale section.
And the straw men are erected already for the against. I especially like how a for sale section will cause our Membership fees to go up... $4000 for a part is ok, but $40 for yearly membership is going to cause riots.
But the membership fees do not have to go up. You sell advertising on the site... just like you do in the Driveline.
Some sites charge their members $20 for a years worth of classified listings... You only pay if you have to list stuff. And, as has been said already, nobody is saying "kill the Driveline"... let them both co-exists.... at least for a year and then reassess Let folks that advertise on the Drivline have a couple months of advertising in the classifieds... then, look at the data and adjust.
I understand that turning the NCRS is like turning a battleship... but you gotta start sometime.- Top

One more thing
I suggest you run the same Poll in the driveline to capture the thoughts of non-tech board users.- Top
