Who makes the best repro lid? How bad do you get hit with a repro vs original when being judged?

Not sure on this one but paragon hasn't been the best on several things I've bought in the past.- Top

Re: Air Cleaner Lid
Hi Randy:
The Paragon lid is made from the original GM tool and is pretty much "dead on" if you get it with the flash chrome.
The only problem with the Paragon lid is that the silk screen is not a good reproduction of the original. Most judges deduct a point for this, so it's not a big deal.
If you want a better silkscreen, contact Richart Fortier, who advertises in the Driveline.- Top

The valve cover lips weren't the same, also one was chromed on the inner side of the cover which isn't correct and could flake off into your engine and the other wasn't chromed on the inner side.
the lid didn't have chrome in the center where the wing nut goes and again the silk screening was way off.
If you have your original have it chromed nad taped on the inner side to protect the silk screening or buy an original off ebay or whatever and have it done.
it's the only way I'd go after ordering and seeing paragons products in person.
Just trying to help because I already did what you're about to do if you order their repros.
and the shielding will have the white palstic rivets that stick out like a sore thumb, and lack the stress marks kinda like broach marks in the metal an original will have.- Top

Re: Air Cleaner Lid
Is the deduct for the poor silkscreening on the Paragon lid the same as having no silkscreening, as in most other repops? What about having a "327, 350 HP" decal on the lid of a '66? I know it is not original, but is there also a deduct for this?Big Tanks In the High Mountains of New Mexico- Top

Air Cleaner Lid; Another vote for Richard Fortier
I second Joe Randolph's suggestion. Contact Richard Fortier. He can have original lids flash chromed and he has spot-on silk screens. He might even have used or restored lids to sell.

Re: Air Cleaner Lid
There are 20 originality points assigned to the the air cleaner lid and base, and 5 originality points assigned to "Attachment, labels, hoses & clamps."
I think most judges would deduct at least 2 points for a missing silk screen on the lid, and one point for a sticker on the lid that doesn't belong there. The deductions might be more or less, depending on the judge.- Top

Re: Air Cleaner Lid
Richard Fortier rechrome my original air cleaner lid and silk screen the label for my 68 427/390hp. He did an outstanding job.- Top
