Just imagine how much "Green'er" the NCRS will look by eliminating some of the paper. Not withstanding, as my current 427/400 is burning up the fossils.

Re: Parts and cars for sale/wanted section

I got my Restorer today. But, I see nothing in the Board Meeting Report that talks about a cars/parts for sale/wanted section. For whatever it's worth, I sent an e-mail to the administrator to ask that he please read this thread and gauge the interest.

I don't understand the past reluctance of NCRS to add this feature. It would be an extremely helpful benefit to its members, would attract more members, poses no liability to NCRS, and it would also be a fun thing for us. I check the TDB every evening, but sometimes there's just not enough news to get my Corvette 'fix' for the day.

Also, the 'classifieds' would actually be maintained by its users, with very little effort by the organization. A few stock disclaimers at the top, a rule or two, and a program to drop any ad that is over 30 days old, and that's it.

Basically, we're all here at NCRS to help each other, by sharing knowledge. And, because it's fun. A classifieds section would enhance that. I see no downside, except for a rare disagreement, which already happens on the TDB anyway because we're people.

How do we get this rolling?

I believe this would be a welcome addition to this board!

Add me to the list, it would be an asset to this forum.

I would like to see this also. But I would like to see a posted price required. Another car site I frequent has a lot of adds with "best offer" in the price space.

Well since some have already received their Restorer/Driveline and SOME of us haven't, did you guys see any good parts some of the rest of us might be interested in??

Seems the parts/cars for sale section has received 100% positive feedback up to this point. What needs to happen to get it started?? What's the first step. Does anyone know who runs the Corvette Forum? maybe they could give some advice how to get it started. With the new format already in place it seems the majority of the work has been done. Who do we contact? I'd be willing to help if I could and I'm sure others would to.

I also support an online for sale/wanted section. When it comes to buying parts, the Driveline is last week's news by the time I receive it and goes directly into the recycling bin . In light of e-Bay, Craig's List and other online sources, look at how thin the classified section of your local newspaper has become. Advertising through the print media is a thing of the past and it's time for the NCRS to move into the 21st century. The new format is a step in that direction and I would certainly prefer to buy from or sell to an elite group who has a sincere appreciation for the hobby.

I think that if any member started to do something not inside the ncrs forum, it would be a conflict of interest. It seems we are in a catch 22, conflict of interest vs suggestions that fall on deaf ears.
I would suggest that rob musquateer(spelling) start a "for sale /wanted "for ncrs members. He seems to possess the required talents. He then could branch out into ebay europe. I would be willing to supply some seed money. Rob could do all the work, and he and I would split the profits.

All go to your representative and all ask/beg/pray/bribe them into supporting this idea... Or better candidate for the board yourself and vote for this initiative in the board next time it is on the list... In short: Play by the rules!!! If it is accepted I'm more than happy to build it/add it to the site!!!

                      greetings,

I fully agree with Rob - channel it via your representative and they will take this further. Should be on the discussion list soon though if I correctly interpret the comments. To me it looks that we have passed the way of no return - only open item is 'how' in my view, not 'if'.

I'd love to have an on-line for sale board because I'd prefer them to go to another NCRS member instead of a eBay participant. I put a few parts in the Driveline, but I have many more.

The paid-advertising revenue stream created by the Driveline.

I agree, the Driveline delivery is so sporadic, and therefore unfair, as to be annoying. But I'm sure it makes money for the NCRS treasury. No one has suggested a way to continue this revenue with a "for sale" section on the TDB.

This might have something to do with 'deaf ears' or 'lack of interest' on the part of Directors regarding this addition. They haven't come up with a solution either.
                              Dave,
I think you raise a good point but there is nothing to prevent advertising or "sponsorship" of an online Driveline. Other Corvette websites such as the Corvette Forum have banner ads, sidebar ads, supporting vendors, etc that create revenue streams.

Additionally, there may still be a place for a print edition for those who do not use the internet, as well as for, ahem, bathroom reading. Even if the Driveline were electronic, I'd still read a print version if it were available.

One last possibility I'll offer is to make the Driveline available electronically as a PDF file (which would also contain the advertising) on the first day of odd months, as well as mailing a print version around that time. This would serve three purposes: 1. allowing access to the ads on the same day for all members who choose to read it electronically; 2. maintaining full ad revenue; 3. not putting members who don't use the internet at a complete disadvantage.

Anyway, there has to be a way to make it work. These are just some ideas to keep the discussion alive and relevant.

                              Joel
