    Re: Your Opinion

Roy and Scott: I thought I was the only one who felt this way. i was lucky to have my dream car before I was 40 and it is the only c1 I ever see on the roads. The only time I come close to seeing a c2 or c3 is when I get to within 20 miles of Carlisle (from the Boston area). say too bad for thoes who miss out on driving to work in the summer or to the market or Home Depot on the weekends. I work on constructiuon job sites and not just decks and patios, but 100'2 of million dollar projects. The car gets dirty and I clean it. I don't show it, nor do I begrudge thoes who do, but they are missing out. When I first got my 61 driver, a neighbor had a 61 Duntov car and said "the only time I'm really comfortable, is when i close it in the garage..." That was the day I knew I would have a driver. it's also the reason I'll never paint the car; once I put a $10k paint job into it, I'll NEVER drive it again. 'm lucky to have friends like Carl Marrow nearby to make sure I keep driving it!!! Thanks Roy... look me up in Carlisle next year!!

        Re: Your Opinion

Roy and all, I disagree that driving a fully restored C1 would reduce it's value. Special care can be taken to protect it from chips, interior fade, oil stains, etc.

I finished my 54 in Sept 07 and had it judged in October. Since then, I have put about 300 miles on it cruising and car shows. I admit I trailered it to the flight judging, but not since nor will I again. She's now officially a driver, sorta like I just bought it new.

I get the biggest kick out of driving this car. Like you Roy, I also have a C6 that I drive daily to work, but weather permitting I'm in the 54. I really don't understand keeping these cars under wraps. They look so cool and attract so much attention to hide them!

            It's Just a Car...

Just finished a 160 mile trip in my '65...It has a couple of Top Flights and Bloomington Gold docs...

It's been in the rain, been in a trailer, etc...It's retired from judging and is now a driver...I like it and plan on driving it for a long time, Good Lord Willing...Nice day today in South Texas for some top down driving, BTW...

Above all, It's just a car...

Let me tell you about having a Corvette "securely closed in a garage". Five years ago I lost a nice '70 Corvette small block convertible in a garage fire. Fate caused an accidental electrical short in the attic over my garage which is attached to my house. I lost the Corvette and lots of rare parts for it (five port pumps, '70 only restored front grilles, etc). American Collectors insurance paid off plus added an appreciation amount and two weeks later I was able to purchase a '70 Corvette LS-5 convertible that needed TLC which is now done. My "accident" didn't happen on a road but in storage.

                    Bill,

There are a few of us still around that drive our cars.

I plan to drive my 57 on the road tour from Oklahoma to St Charles. Just another 800 miles or so by way of the state highways, then 400 home.

Below, 2005 road tour to Park City, Rocky Mountain National Park.

                    See you in St Charles.

A Chapter member lost two Corvettes, a 69 that had been in the family since new and a 96 LT4. Fire started with a cordless drill charging transformer.

Major damage to the rest of the house, big fight with the insurance company on value of the 69.

You can lose them any place.

I bought my '65 coupe about a year ago expressly to drive it, as much and as often as possible. It is not only Corvettes that are being removed from service by over restorations but also Healeys, Jags and others. The car hobby used to be just that, a hobby. Too many people now look at it as an investment. Prices on these cars will remain high and unfortunately more and more people will look at them for investment. I've already instructed my daughter and son-in-law that I will be watching after I die making sure they drive my cars and their inheritance. If not I will come back to haunt them.

I hear and agree with a lot thats been said on this post. And when it comes to older Corvette's people that put tons of effort and time and money into them start looking at the car differantly. I know I have, and in fact it suppost to be painted soon, and I even made the statement once it was painted, I probably would not drive it! And my car is not even an award winner as far as NCRS. And yes it is great right now when out that the little kid big eyed jerking there mothers pants pointing, the folks that give thumbs up or the guy my age that pulls up beside you at the red light and says, brother thats really nice and takes me back to a time when things were really good, I think for some of us it comes down to the money factor unfortunately.
Kids in collage, fighting off major illness, life its self. Its sad, but thats the way it is now, ((Thee money factor)) I told my kids, here is the titles. the Haulmark is empty. Put her in there fill the engine with oil to the top. pump the brakes once a month. Do not sell her.
By the way Bill and Verle, Super nice cars, both my favorites. Thanks for adding the pics.
                                The best to all.
