67 passenger door latch

On a 67, the passenger side door latch does not latch all the time. It takes a while of closing the door repeatedly.
there is no pattern to what works. Sometimes you close it hard and it latches other times it is closing it lightly that it works.
Suggestions???

Sounds like the latching assy needs a good cleaning......

The inner door panel and associated parts need to come off. As Steve mentions, the lock mechanism needs to be cleaned and relubricated. However, you need to inspect the lock mechanism for broken or worn parts. This can be a little difficult since the lock is not designed for dis-assembly. Component parts of these locks were never available from GM and the locks were serviced as an assembly only. I don't know of any parts that are now available. Of course, the locks are long-since GM discontinued.

if you need a complete assembly I can help you out. I bought one on ebay recently thinking that mine was broken. only to find out that it was an adjustment on the "free wheeling" rod

Does anyone have an article or reference for taking the door panels off a C2, what tools are needed?

Going to try for this weekend to tear it apart.

I think it would be substantially the same. There might have been some slight difference with respect to inner door panel removal.

Todd, I too was having similar problems on both sides. Ive only owned my 67 for a few months and it be my 1st, I carefully removed the door panels and pulled back the vapor barrier. Thru the access opening I was able to get to all the mechanisms in the door(roll the windows up first). I was able to directly and indirectly(using a mirror) to lubricate pretty much everything . It all works like a charm now. Just take your time and go at your own pace, you can do it. Any questions, just ask. Ed

I did it w/o the manual. Read a few archive articles and watched some YouTube videos. It was fun and rewarding to do.
A few things were a little tricky at first like removing the cranks w/o the proper tool and placing the panel back into its exact prior position. That why I said go slowly so you can do it again in reverse to put it back together .
