      Re: Camera car

'And the wide whites In '74 while at Milford as a visitor doing brake lining work I asked one of the engineers about the existance of early '63 "P48's" and the '73 "YJ8's" among other things. I was told there were few of each made and that some were still at GM---and some made it out the back door and were at that time in the hands of employees. He said a suggestion was brought forth in '62 and '72 to coat the inside of the rims with a sealant and prevent air escape but the idea was not accepted. Steve

Rick your right "it appears" the camera car photos are very hard to tell if the cones are there, but the Milford photo SHOWS the cones without question. I have never seen in person or in any KH drawings on the gear drive wheels from the beginning in 1961 that shows a cone is not part of the assembly. All the wheels came with a cone as far as my info shows. The pin drive wheels we do see in photos on some race cars without the cones, the cones were removed by their owners to speed up/ ease mounting of the wheels, because of the holes for the pins and lug nuts/studs can get mixed up. Gear drive wheels as shown in your photo of them have a keyway so possible mounting incorrectly is not possible. Thus removing the cone serves no purpose. I have GM's 1963 production figures and it shows 12 cars with P-48, that along with a host of other real docs. If anyone picks up the new Corvette Black Book by Mike Antonick 1953-2014 on page 37 its shows 12 cars with P-48. I gave him my info and HE verified it. IF anyone has any GM or Kelsey Hayes Docs that say anything different. I would love to see it. I am only interested in FACTS, written FACTS not what a dealer told a buyer or all the other HE SAID SHE SAID BS, IT appears to be, IT maybe, I thought it was, I think is was, Everybody knows, If I remember correctly, Somebody told me, My aunt Tilly order them but couldn't get them. "Even the Corvairs didn't come from the factory in 63 with two bar wire wheels". Phil 806
