Funny that Chevrolet would make a film like that in 1963. They were still in the middle of their "We don't support racing and we have no idea where Jim Hall and Roger Penske got those parts from" policy.

I did, the ultimate sleepers, and not SS Impala or Galaxie 500 XL models either.

If you look closely, they appear to be two-bar knock-offs, which were prototypes in '63.

Why didn't the wheels fall off, or leak air causing a flat?

Yeah, who said 63's couldn't have come with KO wheels?

Looks like it was filmed on the North-South straightaway at the GM Milford Proving grounds.

                            Re: Camera car

It appears that the 2 bar knock off wheel shown on the '63 Corvette camera car does not have a chrome center trim cone. It is more than likely an early (prototype) gear drive knock off wheel. The gear drive wheels did not have the metal saving voids in the center of the casting (as were used in the later production pin drive wheels) and could be used without the chrome trim cone. IMO, the early '63 coupe & convertible used in the Zora Duntov/Dave MacDonald/Dick Thompson "Biography of a Sports Car" film at the GM Milford Proving Grounds were also using the 2 bar gear drive knock off wheels as they do not appear to have any chrome center trim cones.

The early wheel without the chrome cone in your picture is either a 1st or 2nd design gear drive wheel. If I remember correctly, both of the original gear drive wheel designs were without the chrome cone but the dimension of the lugs for the adapter changed. I think the OA dimension of the star pattern was larger for 2nd design.

It's very likely that these wheels followed soon thereafter by KO wheels with chrome cones in early 1963.

The third design wheel for 63 was to be the pin drive design.
