Re: Camera car
It appears that the 2 bar knock off wheel shown on the '63 Corvette camera car does not have a chrome center trim cone. It is more than likely an early (prototype) gear drive knock off wheel. The gear drive wheels did not have the metal saving voids in the center of the casting (as were used in the later production pin drive wheels) and could be used without the chrome trim cone. IMO, the early '63 coupe & convertible used in the Zora Duntov/Dave MacDonald/Dick Thompson "Biography of a Sports Car" film at the GM Milford Proving Grounds were also using the 2 bar gear drive knock off wheels as they do not appear to have any chrome center trim cones.

It's very likely that these wheels followed soon thereafter by KO wheels with chrome cones in early 1963.
The third design wheel for 63 was to be the pin drive design.Last edited by Michael H.; December 30, 2013, 09:12 PM.- Top
