I'll be enjoying an adult beverage, in the bidder's bar, with the owners of that Red L88 when it goes across the block. I hope it breaks the bank.

Not to hijack an interesting thread, but my '66 El Camino 325 HP (AT, A/C, PB, PS etc) built in Fremont Jan/Feb '66 has chrome w/drippers. Interesting thing to me is that the chrome on one is virtually perfect and the other looks like it was probably pitted when it was put on (CA/AZ truck).

So is that 12 mile L88 not a real red on red. I thought BJ is saying this was the only RR that was ordered. Sorry if I missed something here

        Thanks

I don't see how BJ/anyone can say there was only one red/red L88. Not all of the L88's have been found so it's possible there are more red/red ones.

I helped disassemble the "12-mile L-88" back in the spring of '67 to the spring of '68 when I graduated and went back to Michigan to work for Pontiac. The original owner (car was purchased from Alan Green Chevrolet) who was a ME classmate of mine at the U. of Washington wanted to turn it into the "ultimate drag racer", but the project was stillborn due to the owner running out of money and other personal problems in the seventies.

I bought and installed the TI into my 340 HP SWC. It quit twice, but I was able to repair it both times at no cost. The second time, circa 1975, after successfully completing bench testing it went into a box as I had by then learned how to make the single point ignition work properly without high rev breakup. I sold the system to Burroughs circa 1988 to install back on the L-88.

              IIRC the interior was black.

We bumped the rear into a tree one night moving the car from one garage bay to another. We got distracted by bunch of chicks from the sorority house across the alley who came out to see what was going on. One of them was my ex-ninth grade girlfriend.

I've made inquiries about repair evidence above the left taillights, but never got a response. I recall that the paint was damaged, but I think the fiberglass was okay.

Looking at the various auctions, seems like hundreds of L88's not to mention just "regular" BB mid years have been "found."

So the red/red '67 L88 doesn't have its original engine?? How is it being presented?

I am watching dvr from yesterday and saw the interview with Roy. I believe he said "it has an original IT code 67 L88 engine"

The 12 mile L88 definitely has black interior.

I supplied the correct 1st design 67 (and early 68) L88 cam for the current engine in that car. It sounds slightly different than the later 68-69 cam.

The current engine made 540 HP on the dyno.

William, no mention of the engine.

Also, here is a short video with Roy talking about the car.

Motorsports coverage includes news, highlights, rankings and more spanning NASCAR, Formula 1, NHRA, ARCA, MotoGP, IndyCar and more auto racing circuits.

Anyone know when this is expected to cross the block? My weekend is a bit tied up. I see Fox has it from 3-5pm, I am assuming, based off this video, that this is as best as I will know.

                            Hi Steve,

I think what William is referring to is what Barrett-Jackson says about the engine. There is no mention on their website of the NOS block, or the lack of a VIN, or the fact that it is not original. That is all I am referring to.

John, of course everything that Roy says is true, but very delicately worded to not say, "this car does not have its original motor." It makes me grimace just a bit.

Hi Peter, I understand. From what I know the car has a factory over the counter L88 engine with the original assembly stamp showing the IT code. It has no vin stamped as the owner at the time did not want to misrepresent the car so it is not the original motor but an L88 engine that was built by GM. If I win the lottery tonight, I will be buying that car!
