So the original owner did not sell the original block, and it was with the car (but not installed) when he sold it to Lincoln Auto Parts, a Seattle salvage yard that specialized in Corvettes. They immediately sold it to the guy in Minnesota as I recall from the CN article.

It's not clear to me from your narrative what happened to the original block. Can you clarify?

That's correct. The original block was with the car when the original owner sold the car to Lincoln's Corvettes, who immediately sold the car to someone in Minnesota. The block remained with the car.

The third owner in Minnesota bought and installed a new L88 Partial engine (short block) and sold the original disassembled short block to a local engine rebuilder.

Burroughs contacted the engine rebuilder years later and asked if there was any possibility that the block may still be there. The owner told him that the chances were near zero and even if it was still there, it would have been decked so there would be no characters left on the pad. He said ALL the blocks that come in to the shop are decked.

There may have been yet another owner somewhere in the mix but I don't remember.

When the car was once again complete, it passed to Jerome Shinkay in Wiscosin.

Look at the clip. Roy said it has 3 top flights & a Duntov award so what part of stamp of approval are you looking for. As far as owners Roy told me that he signed the title over to BJ so that's good enough for me. One can get a Top Flight without the "original block" GOOD LUCK ROY I hope it hits a lick.

So who was the owner who took it to BJ, and who bought it?

A friend emailed a hammer price of $3.5 million, but then I think BJ adds a ten percent buyer's premium.

There was a 10% buyers premium. This is the (only) red/red 67 L88 in existence. The buyer is not a pro golfer although he does have a friend who is a former Master's winner.

I was too far from the stage to see anything after the car sold. But, I did hear that Rick Hendrick bought the Snake and Mongoose cars and haulers in a side deal after they didn't make reserve. Good they are going to a good home.

It would seem likely that the owner(s) have other cars and perhaps imposed some conditions that might protect them from fiascoes like the "claims" arising out of the finding of Cunningham Corvette #1. No one "needs" situations like that.

I tend to agree. I can understand the seller wishing to protect his identity, but this was a public auction that was broadcast. So it would seem that someone, either in the TV audience or at the auction, would have seen and, perhaps, recognized the winning bidder, but all those "in the know" seem to be acting like it's some kind of national security secret.

No, I'm talking about what you confirmed in post #41. A real GM L88 better than something else, but not the same as if it had original engine? Are there any out there with original L88 engines? Suppose would be hard to confirm nowadays with all the $$ and time/energy involved in creating one.

Bob Adams JR.(currently lives in Phoenix area) told me, some time ago, his father Bob Adams SR.(Caledonia, WI) (now Valenti Classics) was the dealer who bought the car from Lincoln Corvette Salvage in WA and sold it to Jerome Shinkay(spelling ?)
BOB did not know if it had the original 4351 at the time.
(Not to be confusing. The Corvette I'm writing about is NOT the Red Red Corvette at BJ this year. It is a Red Black Corvette L88.
The L88 Corvette selling at BJ is/was owned by well known brothers.)
