Since I haven't been around here much lately I did a search to see if this has been discussed, but didn't find anything.
I saw where BJ is selling a red/red '67 L 88 Coupe at the upcoming Scottsdale Auction. I clicked on their website to see details on the car but didn't find much information other than the "one of one red 67 L88's" and "Duntov Award" comments.
If there was only one red/red '67 L 88 and it is the same car that I believe I saw about 20 years ago, give or take, it took some incredible effort to get it from where it was to Duntov standards. I saw this car at a shop here in Georgia and I believe I was told it belonged to an out of state NCRS member who I had met a time or 2. I'm pretty sure I remember it having red/red trim tag. If this is the same car it got a surround and the rest of the front end using NOS GM glass and rear quarters also. I think it was due to flares rather than collision damage. It left here either in bare glass or primer, (can't recall) and I saw it multiple times as the work progressed. I think he had refined his process specifically for this car. He was at the time very proud of his process of applying just the right amount of panel strip adhesive with an old style cake decorating device and was also using tinting to get it to the exact color. The car also did not have the original engine, although they located an NOS block somewhere that was unstamped and had passable date codes for the car. If I remember right it was supposedly going on to Houston for completion and the engine was going to be done there also. I don't recall what the stated plan was for the stamping.
If this is the same car, I wonder what kind of information will be forthcoming on it's history or if somebody spending BJ type dollars on it will care.
