Re: 396 fuel pump
That may be difficult to document. If the 6415962 pump for 65 was still available in service until Aug of 67, I don't understand why it would have been replaced in production in May 65.
Without a change shown in the AIM, I have doubts that it ever occurred.
I know of one untouched 65 396 car that still has it's original 962 fuel pump and I think it's in the 20,000 VIN range.- Top

Re: 396 fuel pump
Michael,
I have to agree with you that it does not make any sense. Usually, but not always, when a part is changed on the assembly line it is also discontinued in the parts catalog. I do not know the difference between the 40248 pump and the 40366 pump. Apparently AC made a lot of 40248 (GM 6415962) pumps (1965 Corvette 396 only) so they must have put all the extras in the GM warehouse.

Re: 396 fuel pump
Just so the non-early BB guys know what is being discussed, here's a pic of an eBay original (needs rebuild), claims it's off a '66. Stamping on flange is AF40366. Can post a pic of stamping if needed.Attached Files- Top

Re: 396 fuel pump
Could somebody please explain the use of this 40366 fuel pump, with the curved tube at the inlet sump (rather than the NPT fitting with nipple) ?Attached Files- Top

Re: 396 fuel pump
I suppose it was less expensive to form the lower housing out of one piece rather than a housing that required an additional inlet fitting. The attached tube would have been cheaper.- Top
