    Just spoke to the 3rd owner and it was interesting to say the least. He said he had it as a daily driver for over 5 years and owned it for 13 years before cashing out for at the time was big bucks in the 80's.

            Ken, can you relay what his experiences were while he owned and drove it.

              George, His recollections differ quite a bit from the published story of the car's history. I don't want to ruffle any feathers, so I'll leave the story as was told by others.

                  Dick;
                  Do the auction houses negotiate with sellers to get these high dollar cars at their sale ?

                    Ray I cannot speak for any firm but mine, but it is a not an unheard of practice in the industry. I hear people whine an cry about commissions at these collector car auctions, but the need to sell with a house like Christie's. They charge 25% $100k and under, 20% $100k to $2 million, 12% above that for buyers premium. Commission for sellers is on a by item basis. The better the item, the less the commission

                      Ken, thanks. I'd sure be interested in hearing what his impressions were of the driving experience. Was it really that much better than a 425/435 car??? Maybe others here know the answer to that.

                        George,

                        I certainly don't have any firsthand knowledge of what it's like to drive an L88. I wish!!! But from what I've seen from Duke and possibly others, it is a racing engine. In other words, terrible to drive on the street, but a blast on the drag strip.

                          Joe,

                          That '67 L88 was great to drive into the Waco Convention Center for its first Judging.

                            When I bought my '69 L/88 it had a set of factory tube headers (Kustom) and tube side pipes and ZL-1 cam. A dog below 3,500, but when it hit 3,500 hang on and aim for something soft. Would light the rear tires in third gear. Pulled strong to 6,500 and past. After almost sticking it in the front door of a doctor's office when catching third gear, I decided I did not need to be driving that car. When I restored it I went back with a NOS '69 2" exhaust system. It made a dog out of that car, not near as much fun to drive.

                                No, it was worse because the OE drivetrain was long gone when he got it. It had a replacement 390 HP engine by then. That's why it was just another driver although it once been a thoroughbred.................
