that's my problem, I only have an 1 allenhead plug on the right side and on the left side I have 1 hex bolt. Something does not seem normal?

Harry, no problem you can just replace the 1 allenhead plug with a hex head plug, that's what the factory used originally.

Still waiting for parts. My project is changing the antifreeze, replacing the waterpump and replacing the hoses. It will be a fun Day or two. I have concerns about removing the drain plugs, I certainly do not want to break anything. I will spray lubricate around the the bolts before I give them a yank. Dutch

The bolt and the allenhead plug on the block do not seem that they want to break loose. It is almost to the point that I better leave them alone before I break something.I will work on installing the new waterpump and hoses. Dutch

Harry, Try Kroil or some other type of penetrating oil, it may take several days of application, but it should work.

I thought of this thread while changing the coolant on my '67 L78, and took pictures of the block drain plugs. These are hex-headed and take a 9/16 socket. I remove the dipstick tube to make it easier to get to the passenger-side plug. (I also put a wad of paper towel in the tube so coolant doesn't get into the pan.)

edit: There is a lot of coolant in the block. It is almost as much as in the radiator.
