Re: 2014 Corvette in Yellow
Corvettes are supposed to be about horsepower, not yuppie electronics and nice cup holders. Who gives a rip about best "Apps"?Rip everything out but maybe the radio. "Yallow" color looks like wht you see on older Caprices that have been repainted and have huge wheels ("shoes") popular in certain demographics.- Top

Re: 2014 Corvette in Yellow
I hate to say it, but my new Shelby GT350 has the Ford SYNC system that has real time traffic conditions, warnings, and speed averages/speed limits on the roads too, among other things (POI details), that are far superior to GM products. Sounds like GM needs to get up to date, I agree with Terry and Jim.- Top

Re: 2014 Corvette in Yellow
We use the phone, too. Before we leave the house on long trips I usually look at a map just for orientation (Oklahoma is still north of Texas!). In a previous life as part of my job in the wireless world I worked a bit with the GM folks (before the rebirth) on On Star. At that time there did not seem to be ideas comparable to capabilities. Probably cost issues. When I specified handsets at the same time I included sat location, navigation and some other things. I remember when the vehicle navigation device was a compass stuck to the windshield with a small suction cup and a "free" map from the local "service" station. Our navigation devices spoke then, too --- "You kids shut up! I am trying to read this *%$#% map!" and "You better be quiet. Don't make me stop this car."There is just nothing like laughing at the driver then gettin' jerked out of your shorts while lost in the middle of no where."
Aaahhhhh, the good old days.

Jeffery, maybe you could inquire of your neighbor to see if they still have the same crappy nav system as the 2012-2013 'Vettes, if so maybe you could give him our feedback about how his company could make millions by making a good one....Big Tanks In the High Mountains of New Mexico- Top

Re: 2014 Corvette in Yellow
I sold my 2007 Z06 in 2012 with 16k on it. I bought an Audi A5 with the proceeds. By the time I got home from the dealer with the Audi I was able to operate the features including the Nav and the audio system with more ease than I could with the Z06 after 5 years. For those five years with the Vette I thought I just must be an idiot. That could still be true, but this Audi appears to be idiot proof. It's also MUCH slower than a Z06.
I use Garmin in my wife's car and have an older unit in my Cub airplane. The Audi Nav is easier to use than the Garmin in the car. The airplane unit is like apples and oranges because of the data base, but ease of learning and use is equivalent to the Audi.

Re: 2014 Corvette in Yellow
Ought to be a test to pass before being accepted into NCRC membership: Can you read a real map or do you have to stare into a computer or a "smart phone" or some sort or navigation device? I f you fail; no membership. I've given presumably intelligent people perfectly good directions on how to get to some place, but they insist on using sat nav and it sends them on some dirt road or into an undersirable neighborhood. Can't believe NCRS members spending so much time on yuppie car computer crap. And in case you're wondering, I read MRI's on a computer screen all day as an M.D. radiologist, but when I get in my 67's and 62 Corvettes , it's a different story; old school is what it's all about!- Top

Re: 2014 Corvette in Yellow
I enjoy putting in my destination for a place I know how to get to while at work just to see how many mistakes it makes and how annoyed it gets when I don't follow the wrong directions. I admit that I use it more for the map than I do for the directions. I switch to satellite view to see where the buildings and tanks I'm looking for are located. Can't see that on a printed map. I may even get to the point where I take that big bag of maps out of my truck bag for good.

Re: 2014 Corvette in Yellow
will be interresting, in 20 years time we need to make sure the right software version in the board computer and NAV will be installed when judged to mimick how it came out of the factory!Rob.
