    2014 Corvette in Yellow

    On my way into my shop this morning, I spotted this 2014 at a neighbor's house. I rang the doorbell to ask permission to take a few pictures and the fellow said of course and said I should wait while he got the keys. As I stood by the car I heard a click and then a dull roar as the engine started. He came out of the house, opened the driver side door and said "Get in". He said he has the use of the car for the next 4 months. Not a bad way to get across town to the Tech Center. He said he is the global manager of the group that is responsible for the interior electronics. He gave me a tutorial of the multitude of things that this amazing car can do. Actually, it is quite complicated and I don't think that I could ever use it to it's capabilities. I didn't want to push for a ride and he didn't offer. I was this close! Maybe nest time. And this was after driving next to 2 fully camouflaged Corvettes on Friday on my way to Ann Arbor. Detroit may be bankrupt but the surrounding areas are "rich".

      Jeff,

      Your neighbor is the guy I want a piece of. Tell him to fix the NAV system. Their Denso provided system is a POS, and you can quote me on that. A friend has a 2013 Chevrolet truck and the NAV system on that works far better than the one in Corvette. I paid $3000 for the option package with the NAV to make the dash look nicer, and it does, but function ... fur-get about it.

      Edit add: If he wants to see what a Bright Blue interior looks like in a C6, just set it up and I will drive over so he can see. He probably has nothing to do with interior colors though. They have areas of responsibility so segmented it is hard to find out who is responsible for what.

            Nav systems in cars are outdated about 2-3 years before you buy the vehicle. With Garmin units so inexpensive and more accurate I refuse to buy any car with an installed Nav system much less pay extra for one. Someday they might improve, but they're not there yet.

            My iPhone mapping has gotten so good it almost negates my Garmin. However, the corded Garmin works well for longer trips. I used both my phone and Garmin for a trip to PA and VA 2 weeks ago with excellent results.

              PA & VA? You should be here now. Did your Garmin get you lost for a week?

              BTW: It took Denso until 2012 to discover a 6-lane toll road around Chicago that was opened in 2007. But they did go from two disks to one in 2012.

                I can understand the Garmin/Magellan/TomToms, but the so called "smart" phones are just too small and cumbersome to use for me, guess my fingers are too big and eyes too old? Why can't they make an onboard, built-in Nav system, which ergonomically are ideal, that could download (think Bluetooth) a Google type Nav software from your phone/computer that would show up on the big screen in your car?

                  They can. 2012 Dodge Ram = Garmin on a 5 x 7 screen, and a USB port in the glove box connected to a on-board hard drive for music down loads. It is all a matter of who the vehicle manufacturer wants to, or can, contract with for the features.

                    The electronics in my wife's Acura is top notch. Nav., Bluetooth, on board hard drive/USB for your music etc. make GM's latest version look like a Commodore 64.

                          I hate to say it, but my new Shelby GT350 has the Ford SYNC system that has real time traffic conditions, warnings, and speed averages/speed limits on the roads too, among other things (POI details), that are far superior to GM products. Sounds like GM needs to get up to date, I agree with Terry and Jim.

                            Jeff;

                            BTW, thanks for posting the pictures. As for me, I'd rather keep my eyes on the road and do my trip planning before I leave the house. If need be, I'll take NAV delete.

                              That car is more than likely a captured test fleet (CTF) vehicle. They are non saleable cars used to gather real world data on new models.
