    Re: C1 Seat Belt Orientation

Just guessing, but isn't there a slight bend in the hambone near the mounting hole? I'd install the hambone so that bend puts the belt towards the seat allowing more room for the belt to loop through the hambone and not jam against the floor. That probably would explain why left and right side 'bones are oriented opposite from each other.

Good observation. There is an offset to the hambone and with the offset toward the seat would help keep the hambone away from the seat separator. That's the way I'll install mine

I agree. The female latch was installed in the inboard position from 1963 on up. No reason to think it was different prior to 1963.

Russ, another one of those things that don't make sense, but the belt in John's picture with the outer belt bolted through in the lower hole of the bracket is the same as shown in my 1960 AIM. It shows up in the picture from the AIM in my original post and in my post #4 above.

Without the AIM, I would have naturally put the belt anchor bolt through the top hole.

Donald, I installed the hambones on my 1960 as Rod stated for the same reason.

The top hole on the outboard bracket is to anchor the bottom bracket on the power top cylinder. I know that because I just installed the bottom bracket of the cylinder in the top hole and moved the hambone down to the bottom hole. Without a cylinder, no reason not to install the hambone in the top hole. I had mine anchored in the top hole for 23 years; not anymore. The AIM calls for the hambones to be mounted 45 degrees above the floorboard.

I tried mounting the male buckle on the outboard side for a while, but it was always in the way when I unbuckled it. I moved the female to the outside and received no deduct at TX Regional last fall.

Joe, were there any judge comments about you belts not being per the TIM&JG?

Donald, I am not following you. What part of my belts not being per the TIM&JG? The repro Irving Air Chute label on my belts is not correct and received 1 point deduct. That is the only item I am aware of that is not per the TIM&JG.

Sorry, I misread your response in #21 above. You have your female buckles in the outboard position and that is in accordance with what the TIM&JG says.

Whether the TIM&JG is correct or not, I'll mount mine that way since I will need the points when I have my car judged.
