Here's a couple: pg 117, "Idler Assembly L76hp and L84hp" .. all L78's (??) .. have an idler assembly consisting of a pulley, bearing, adjusting stud and adjustable mounting bracket. The L78 is a misprint (should have said L84; minor typo).

Five locations (pg 18, 52, 83, 129 and 159): "Final Monthly Serial Numbers and Body Build Date Code" tables. August 1965 line (GM shows VINs 23563 and 23564 being produced in this month). However the observed trim tag dates are L16 ('563' has a Dow-Smith body), and L30 for the S-body on '564'.

This may require an asterisk to explain that the two August produced cars had bodies with trim tags dated in July. (ie. NO 'M' tag date stampings).

Gary, if you look on page 137 of the current '65 JG, under Fan Blade Assembly: The second sentence states: "All blades are rounded on the ends.". This is incorrect for the 1965 A/C-equipped cars. The seven-bladed fan has a distinctive blade profile that is NOT rounded on the ends.

The third sentence states: "The rivets typically used on all fans have mushroom heads.". This is incorrect for the seven-bladed fan. After a certain date (early '65?), these 7-bladed fans had flat-head rivets. Also, there is no part number stamped/embossed on these (7-bladed) fans. There is only an embossed/stamped "H" on mine.

Re: Next Edition of the 65 Judging Guide

        Clark,
This post seems to cover the C60, 65 fan in detail.

        https://www.forums.ncrs.org/showthre...hlight=3853943

Only issue is the change over date from mushroom to flat head rivets.

I have added both your issue and Waynes to the list.
        Cheers,
        Gary

          Hi Wayne,
Your answer in the below would close out this issue.

As confirmed by the NCRS Shipping Data Report which Wayne ordered, GM records indicate 23564 was released from production 7/30/1965. That says in my peanut brain 23563 and 23564 were prodcued in July not August.

Roy -- We may have discussed this a bit at NW Regional (Seaside), earlier this year. [the fact that my NCRS Shipping data on #23564 did not correspond to official GM data].

Here is a pic of the St. Louis plant final #s. This is part of a 3-page letter from Chevrolet Central Office, dated Oct 11, 1965, and sent to Zone Service Managers. Subject: Last 1965 model serial numbers built each month (RESTRICTED INFORMATION) [oops ]. Covers 17 Chev and B.O.P. assembly plants. The '#' symbol = Note: All month of production figures have been reviewed and revised as indicated; symbol '*' = Strike period - no vehicles built; symbol '**' = Last job built - model phased out; '***' = Revised as of 9-27-65. Letter signed by J.C. Purcell (?? signature difficult to read) Director, Technical Service Department.

I got a copy of this document from John Amgwert decades ago.

So maybe the two Corvettes in August boils down to John Hinckley's explanation of the "pay point" differing for Corvette. Hey; I want my $40 back .

#7 if the washer is pn 120394 and the nut is pn 124829 (those are 63/64 #'s)
then here they are: ie plain washer and special jam nut (its thinner)
I also have references to the 63/64 AIM's but do not have the 65AIM - hope that helps.

                    Alan,

Those are the same two parts (GM 120394 Washer, GM 124829 Nut) as are called out in the 65 AIM, to secure the fuel filter bracket to the engine stud, shown on UPC L75-1.

Re: Next Edition of the 65 Judging Guide

Here's another item for any list of revisions/additions (if it hasn't already been flagged by others).

Rubber seal on top of 396 rad support: '65 TIM&JG page 139 (top paragraph).
"The addition of the seal....for improved cooling .... added as a running change, VIN unknown"
                      -----------------------------
Per Chev Tech Field Service Engineering Tech Information bulletin, dated 7/16/65:

"Subject: 1965 Corvette hood flutter with 425 hp engine...early cars may experience flutter or hood rapping on the rad support...corrected by rubber seal #3827625 cemented to top of rad support. An identical fix went into production on vehicles built after serial number 5S116736".

So the purpose was not (necessarily) for cooling, although I'm sure it helped.

Re: Next Edition of the 65 Judging Guide

I’m starting to reassemble the front suspension on my ’65 and I’ve found what might be some ambiguity in the judging manual.

In the Anti-Roll Bar, Links and Bushings section the JM states:
The brackets which retain the rubber bushing, painted semi-gloss black, mounted with cadmium or zinc plated nuts, recessed hex-head bolts and lock washers.

Then in the Lower “A” Arms, Ball Joint and Hardware section it says:
Black phosphate-oiled bolts attach a rubber bumper molded into a natural finished metal plate.

However the AIM shows the part number of the nuts to be the same part. My question is the nut zinc plated and the bolts black phosphate? In one section the JM states the finish of the nut and ingores the finish of the bolt and vis-versa in the other section.

Well the 6th edition is out and looks like most items on the list have been accepted.

So for a silver interior I wont have to paint my black radio side panels, see Interior 9.
