I'd like a higher resolution / larger sized photo to be able to comment more accurately.

Comparing with another unrestored L78 about 1300 VIN #'s past yours, I'd say that your VIN derivative has "5's" that are too wide at the mouth; and I'd like to see the "1's" with a longer tail at the top. Also, the "2's" have a vertical ending before intersecting the base, rather than meeting at an angle.

On the Tonawanda stamping, my major notice is that the horizontal top on the "T" is too wide, relative to the height of the letter (including where it intersects with top bar). Same thing with the letter "I".

I won't tackle the "6"s or "9"s because I realize they can be tilted in the gang holder.

Now I admit that there are variations between stamp dies, so I'm no way saying that your example is not TFP; just my comments.

So, did you hear the one about the farmer and the doctor talking about engine stamps?

Did you guys hear the one about the doctor, the farmer and the airplane driver that walked into a bar? You'd think that one of them would have seen it and warned the others. Maybe they were distracted by the unusual broach marks above the Tonawanda stamping.

Patrick and Dick, do you want to share your thoughts with the rest of the forum members on this thread ?

I'm just trying to learn from people who have more knowledge than I in what to look for on stamp pads.

I think they were distracted by the airplane engineer.

I'd still like a larger / higher quality photo.
The last thread like this we got lambasted for not saying enough.
I'm not saying anything publicly until I see more - though I so have a thought based on what I see so far.
If such a photo can't be provided, then I'll stay quiet.
