Re: What Happened To The Wave

I started with The Wave in 1962 and still, to this day, Wave to every Corvette I see. Sometime my speed or proximity do not allow me to verify a return Wave. However, for those I can see, I always get a return Wave. What's more, in the last year or so I have noticed that many times drivers in C5 and C6's Wave to me first.

Soooooooo, based on my experience, The Wave is alive and well here in the Carolinas.

Isn't it obvious? it's hard to wave now when the "wave" hand is now holding the cell phone.

Should not be a problem for us old coots. The other hand used to hold a brewski, and we managed to shift and wave at the same time.

Multi-tasking, old school style. It is funny how many waves you see with other makes as well now - BMW owners, Jeep owners...

Corvette owners did'nt corner the market on waving. I moved to North Carolina 32 years ago. If you were riding in the country on a two lane road people were going to wave at you, no matter what you were driving. They were mostly middle aged and older men, and they're all gone now. People are still friendly, and believe it or not I still get a wave now and again mostly in the rural eastern part of the State. It always catches me by surprise, but the only time I wave is on my bike, and only to other bikers.

The wave is still alive here in New Jersey - however it seems to be with older drivers.
Paul, I have noticed that many guys riding Harleys will wave to each other - however if
the guy that starts the wave it not riding a Harley - many Harley guys will start to wave back but slowly roll it over into a "thumbs down". Welcome to the Tri-state area.

In Jersey, it's sometimes interchangeable between the wave and the middle finger. After all, here, they are both signs of endearment.
Why, yesterday, as I was driving my red '85 back home from a Fossil's Show in Freehold on Route 18, a midyear with "STOLEN" vanity plates........................................

That's true, Harley riders only care about their own. After years of riding my BMW RT on road trips, very few would do the biker salute, except the thumbs down one.

Guess it depends on which part of the Country you're in. If you wave at me, I'll wave back regardless of what you're riding. I even waved to a "liquor sicle" last week (the guy looked like he needed a break). However, if I wave at you and you don't respond, you get an unfreindly gesture.

Sometimes I'm so distracted trying to drive, shift, drink, smoke, text, and talk on the cell phone that I don't see the other vette going by. My bad.

I lived in IN. & in the country. If you drove a pickup truck down county roads everyone waved at you even people outside walking or in there yards.

And I thought that was just a Southern thing, Kenneth.

I ride a Harley Davidson every day. I wave to all bikes. That's just me. I don't care what you ride.

When driving in one of the Corvettes, my wife gets miffed if I wave at a female driving another Corvette. I have tried to explain to her that I am waving at the Corvette, not the female driver. She is not convinced.
If in my C1, newer Corvette owners usually do not wave, only the ones driving another C1 or a C2 or C3.

Some of the drivers of the newer Corvettes probably don't know that a C1 is a Corvette.
