I just spoke to the people at Gordon Killebrew and the 1984 to 86 Corvette did have a pin stripe option coded D98. It was very rare but i spoke to a person who worked at Bowling green and put the stripes on cars with the D98 option. They were decals and not painted on however many Corvettes that had them the owners peeled them off probably when they started to blisted with age like most decal pin stripes. I am trying to make my 84 as orginal as possible so does any one know of a web page or own and early C4 with the pin stripes on it. I would love to get a picture so I can try and reproduce the option and keep the car as it looked when new?

Re: D98 pin stripe option
I've owned my '84 since new and had several other C4's as well. I would agree with the previous post that a code does not show up for them and I have never seen a car with such stripes. Where on the car were they supposed to be? Running lengthwise above the beltline, something on the hood, or what? I'm sure some dealers added tape stripes to enhance profit on a vehicle but I have my doubts there were any factory C4 stripes.- Top

Re: D98 pin stripe option
I spoke yesterday to one of the people who is part of the Killebrew organization and he installed them on the 84 to 86 cars. This was a Rare option and was a decal not paint. It ran along the side of the car and around the deck. This is all the information I have. i am waiting to hear from a Corvette owner who removed the stripes until he found out they belonged on the car. He also had the D98 code on his parts label. It did exist and was a option on early C4s. Many owners removed them most likely when the pin striped got wheathered like most decals do. I also do not know where they actually belong that is why I am waiting to here from this other person. i will post as much info as I can. If your C4 has that code on the parts decal (NOT to be confused with D9B as in boy) . That is a speedo sensor. My car has a 8 without a doubt and not a B. The stripes were on there at some time since 1984.- Top

Re: D98 pin stripe option
I just heard from a Corvette owner who has the stripes. The color of the stripes depends on your color of your car. mine is white so the two stripes are red and silver . The go above the black molding all the way around the car including the wheels wells. the stripes are only 3/16 od and inch in thickness. You can only odrer the tape from a body shop . 3M is the manufactuer. The part number is 74807. Cost is up to the body shop.- Top

Re: D98 pin stripe option
It was NOT a dealer add on. If your 84 to 89 does not have D98 on your storage bin you car will NOT have the stripe. I will send pics when I put them on. You can take this as Gospel. The option is rare and was put on at Bowling green when the cars were built. This was not some dealer add on to make a few bucks. Any NCRS judges with C4 knowledge should be aware of the option.- Top

Re: D98 pin stripe option
The 1953-1982 and 84-85 Corvette parts books have a GM production option list almost 2000 items long. It does have RPO D98 as an accent stripe. The applicable years listed are from 1976 to 1986. These years don't mean much because the rpo could apply to any GM model(s). The 84-85 parts book doesn't have a part # for a stripe that is for Corvette.- Top

Re: D98 pin stripe option
Any other "D" options on the car? (D60/D84). Do you know how D98 was ordered? I do not find D98 on the dealer order list of available options (GM Archive Publication pdf) for 1984-1986. Perhaps D98 was a fallout from ordering another option.Judging Chairman Mid-Way USA (Kansas) Chapter- Top
