I guess it is how you look at it..... left-right-upside down or right side up.

Thanks for the picture Bill. I hope we get some more response from other C1 "nail head" bolt owners. This is very interesting.

I checked my molding a little closer and I think what you are seeing that makes you think the molding is off is actually the underside of the fender. It could be off 1/16th of an inch at the very front. When looking straight at it, it's not noticible, but from a bit of an angle, you see the inside of the fender well. It's such a small amount, I could probably fix it pretty easily. This is original molding. It was dinged up so I sent it to Bob Mayle in NY and he removed all the dents and dings and buffed it to perfection. All 4 peices were $160 and it's original. His e-mail address is ssnybob@cs.com (phone 716-683-4018) I've attached some add'l pictures. Hope that helps.

Mine fit the same way on the passenger side and I thought it was the trim piece so I got another NOS piece and it fit the same way. There was discussion on the Board recently regarding this and I think that the conclusion was that the fit was not that precise. I noticed that trim on a number of other cars at the Tucson regional fit the same way. Al Edmonds had a thread on this recently as well. You might run a search for his posts.

Can you tell me what the radius is on the inside of the hook ?

I was reading my Judging guide and on page 68 they call it a 5/16 bolt size it sure looks like 1/4 inch to me. Is this an error.

I took the hold down bolt out of my 60, which I believe is original to the car and made a detail drawing of it. Measurements were made with dial calipers but I'm sure there were manufacturing tolerances so don't consider what I have measured to be absolute, more of a reference. Definitly 5/16-18 thread.

I'm pretty certain it is 5/16.

So nice to have a draftsman on the TDB. Even an old phart like me can understand that print.

I checked the original j-bolt from my '59 and got the same dimensions as Tom's drawing for overall length, hook length, hook angle, and thread (5/16-18) length.

Your second photo looking straight on does look much better. My space between the molding and the fender lip is about twice as much as yours.
