Re: 1966 & 1967 K-19 Corvette owners
Reading these replies got me thinking. Did K-19 only come on cars with big blocks destined for California? I had a 67 base engine 327 delivered in California that only had the PCV on the oil fill tube and breather hole to air cleaner system. What is/is not required?

No, all Corvettes delivered to California for the 1967 model year had to be equipped with K-19 regardless of what engine was originally installed. The only exception was L-88. If you had a car that was originally delivered to California and didn't have K-19, then someone removed it (or, the car was not actually originally delivered to California---originally delivered means delivered from the factory to a dealer in California, not just to a customer in California).
As far as could K-19 be ordered in other states, this has been a controversy for years. For the 1966 model year GM says that K-19 was only available for cars delivered to California. For 1967, I don't know.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

"...mandatory on all 1966 Chevrolet, Chevelle, Chevy II, Corvette and Corvair engines in California (except the 90hp 153 cu.in. L4, and the 425hp - 427 cu.in. V8) and on all 10 series trucks. It is available optionally (RPO K19) in all other states."
Just assuming that the availability/mandatory situation would be the same for the 1967 model year.- Top

Steve, Thank you for your response. Do you know if these cars are in the C-2 Registry? I went thur the 1966 and 1967 C-2 registry several years ago and do not want to do that again. Looks like 58 K-19 now. Dale- Top

Here's what Chevrolet Service News (Sept-Oct 1965) had to say about A.I.R.

The Chevrolet Service News you cited is at odds with what it says in the 1966 Chevrolet Order Guide. That says that K-19 is "required for and exclusive to cars registered in California".In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Tom-----
The engine suffix code is what verifies if the car was built with K-19 or not. That's what DMV is supposed to use to determine the correct original configuration for smog purposes. Of course, this is such "ancient history" by now that it's likely not even used.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Dale, no AC on a 435. The 400 you are referring to with tons of options has AC I believe....I know the owner...confirm with him....That's a lot of plumbing in the engine bay with AC and AIR, etc...Very cool thread..ARA- Top
