Anyone else have a problem with the reproduction C2 spark plug wires that are sold by Lectric Limited?

I have a date-coded set on my '65 L76 A/C Coupe. In the last few weeks, I have noticed a loss of power. When I took the car into the shop for diagnosis, they found that the #8 plug wire had separated from the clip that attaches to the spark plug tip, causing a no-fire condition on cylinder #8.

The failure was not noticeable with just a visual inspection. The mechanic had to actually remove the boot to see the problem. This cost me over $180 to diagnose and repair. Be aware that with an A/C car, the right bank of spark plugs is a booger to get to. -Clark

since the repo plug wires have a carbon core, and since the integrity of this core can be damaged by removing/re-installing the plug wire on the plug, failure to get voltage to the plug is a common problem with these carbon core plug wires. i stopped using carbon core plug wires back in the 70's and only use stainless steel core wires(Packard 440 plug wire is my favorite). For a vette that is going to go thru judging, i get a set of lectric limited plug wires, remove the boots and contacts and install them on Packard 440 wire. sometimes the stamp data on the Packard wires will appear miraculously overnite. i think the st bernard who sleeps in my shop has access to the stamps and stamp ink that ends up on my Packard wires with lectric limited boots and contacts. mike

Had the exact problem Mike commented about on a BBC set two weeks ago...

Very Frustrating for what they cost...

Mine are back in the box after using them for about 2 weeks. They may be good for judging points, but other than that.........IMHO junk.

The Lectric Limited dated repro plug wires are fine, as long as you don't touch them, pull them, push them, pinch them, route them, connect them, clip them, move them, breathe near them, or put secondary voltage through them.

I'm surprised at all the trouble others have had. I put them on my 70 years ago and have not had a single problem with them - not one.

Mine failed after the first plug change on 66 L79.

The important or operative word here is "I put them on.... years ago". Somewhere between then and now LL changed suppliers or manufacturers.

I also have LL repro wires from long ago, and to date they are still working fine. But I also have a 100 foot spool of Packard 440 wire in the garage for the day they begin causing problems.

Do all reproduction plug wires originate from Lectric Limited? I have a set of dated reproduction braided wires. About six months ago for whatever reason one burned out at the plug. I can't recall which place I bought them from.

Years ago, LL was able to purchase cable very similar to the original from the OEM source. That source discontinued that business a few years ago, and that may be the root of some of the problems seen today. Mikes approach is great as long as you don't plan on using the Radio.

The exhaust note is all the tunes I need. To add to the reception issue, packard 440's interfere with my garage door opener with the engine running.
