    Thread Repair Holley Fuel Bowl

Can someone tell me the correct size thread for a 2818 Holley inlet fitting. I have a stripped thread to repair if the helicoil is available somewhere.

The bowl is the original and in V/G condition other than this problem..

Not worth the effort. Call Holley & buy another bowl.

most places that do heli coil float bowls don't do holleys because there is not enought material to make it work. the thread is 7/8"-20

Heli-coil makes a 7/80-20 carb kit. Ready for price Tim???

288.42 plus. Whew!!! Would not be worth it unless you are in the business. Doubt if it would even work on a Holley though but might work on other carbs.
I see fuel injections with stripped out inlet fittings.
Tip: Say you don't need a heli-coil and just want to chase some messed up threads. You need a special tap for fuel.
Fuel Injection example since I don't work on carbs anymore.
The inlet fitting on a typical(all) 57 to 65 is a 1/8" pipe thread. But that's not really correct as it's a 1/8 straight pipe thread. I have the numbers of the tap in the shop if anyone wants it. The inlet fitting itself is 1/8 tapered. So you screw a tapered fitting into a straight pipe thread for a crush fit. Go beyond that and you break the castings.

Best thing to do with the carbs and FI's that have issues on the inlet is to replace the castings. JD

          OUCH!! $288.

Are you guys sure the thread size is 7/8x20, this is not my 3810 with the big fitting but the smaller banjo type fitting with smaller inlet threads for the 2818 holley.

a picture will help to see what you are referring to.

I am pretty sure that is what he is talking about on the 2818. My LT1 Holley with the cathedral center hung bowls takes the 7/8 inch fitting.

Thanks everyone, 9/16"-24 sounds about right. Are these sizes, (7/8-20, 9/16-24) the only two sizes used on the Holley?

How difficult is the 9/16-24 helicoil to find..

I have a set also, but did not want to dig them out of who knows where they are to see which thread they had

If there are a few threads still left, I have used Loctite Form-A-Thread to repair carb inlet fittings. I know, the last time I posted this I got shot down in flames, but it does work with no leaks. I know of one repair on a daily driver that was done over 10 years ago and still does not leak. We used it to salvage several valuable carburetor bodies and fuel bowls. It is a high strength epoxy with a release agent that you apply to the threads. Once the epoxy sets up, you can remove and replace the fitting

If you use it, follow the instructions to the letter for good results.
