The heater hose from the expansion tank "T" goes through a bracket below the AC compressor to the engine block. It makes about 90 degree turn right under the AC compressor pully and crimps at that turn. The reporduction hose that is supposed to be correct has ribs in it on one side, but turning it different ways doesn't seem to matter...it still crimps! Please give advice on how to keep hose from crimping. Help!

No wonder you have a crimped hose. If you're talking about the coolant hose that flows to the intake manifold, you need a pipe #3854099 to turn the corner under the pulley -- the hose attaches to each end of the pipe with the 90 degree turn.
The other hose (coming from the water pump) is less of a problem and needs no pipe to negotiate the corner. This is shown in AIM UPC60, sheet D3 (in 1965, at least).- Top

Mike, thanks, and I am fimailar with Aim C60-D-3.00...it's not the coolant hose that flows to the intake manifold, and we have the pipe #3854099 to turn the corner and connect the two hoses under the pulley...its the other hose (coming from the water pump) that runs right beside it and both go through the clip exactly as it shows in AIM...but that other hose simply will not negotiate the corner with out crimping it flat. We've checked the bracket, changed the hose, and its still crimps....can't figure out what's wrong. Any other cules? Thanks again!- Top

Richard...thanks for great pics! The hose I am talking about is underneith these hoses...it goes straight from the waterpump through a bracket under the AC compressor to the "T" just under the overflow tank, then on to heater core. Thats the hose that is crimped when you make the turn...The other hose comes out of the heater core, heads back through the same bracket only it has a metal 90 degree piece that helps it turn...then goes into the engine block...completing the system. My guess is the hoses "aint waht they used to be" and when turned its not as think as the old original type and thus crimps at the turn. I'd love to see a picture of that on your car! Thnaks again! John, Sorry but those are the only photos I have. It's not my '63. I wish it was though. It's a "barn" car, stored outside under a car cover for the last 7 years, then previous 23 in the "barn". It's a PG, PB, PS, PW convertible. Last time on the road in 1980.
Owner won't sell.

John- This is my first post on this forum. I just finished the a/c on my 64 coupe using the ribbed hoses. Had the same problem that you had until I realized that the black bracket that attaches to the compressor mount was in the wrong hole. Also on my car the fitting that comes out of the waterpump is longer. Could your hose be too short? I'll try to attach some pictures of my installation. No crimps, drove car from Denver to the Joplin regional in April- no problems, no leaks, heater worked fine.

I have a 66', It did not have the 90* metal tube on it. Was this tube also used on the 66' air cars?Gary Nyland

I think Bill nailed the diagnosis of your problem.
Check to see if your hose clip is attached with the lower/inboard compressor flange bolt (& nut). You've probably got it on the outboard side.
You'll find the lower hose lays in there with a real nice radius bend after you relocate the clip.- Top

Gary, on the lower heater hoses, I have two hoses...one that comes out of the heater box and goes staight to the front of the engine block...it turns just under the air conmpressor and has a 90 degree metal turn right there that connects the two hoses...the other which is the one in question for me that is crimping comes straight from the water pump around the compressor with no metal and turns 90 degrees and crimps right there...then goes on to the " T" right under the overflow tank and then into the heater core. Both go through the bracket mounted under the compressor to keep the hoses away from the belts and pullys...I am checking to see if earlier suggestions of the bracket being mounted wrong solve the problem. Mike, thanks for the picture...I will move the bracket aroung and see where it fits...here's the page in Aim which is throwing me off...its section C60 D300...shows the bracket plain as day...and two different installations. I made notes and marked the confusion. Is there any chance youi could get a picture of the bracket with the hoses running through it? I really appreciate your help! Also my hoses are ribbed...if that matters. Supposedly they are correct (Long Island Corvette Supply). Thnaks, JFL- Top
