Looks like Artic Blue to me. Check photos of similar listed cars with that color on the C-1 Registry and a similar car that sold at Meum Auction in Kississmee in Jan/11

i guess it's the only one close to the available colors for 56

David,

It's Artic Blue. If you use modern paint it's too light and looks grayish rather than blue. Lacquer seems to do OK after 6 coats.

Here is ARTIC BLUE. It was a 1956 and 57 color. Only 390 cars in 1956. Came with beige or red interior. Rare color.

These phots are old paint from 1960, but the color is correct.

one of my biggest regrets
is that i had it painted red!
oh well, i really wanted a red vette
if...i have an accident

just about done with what i'm going to do at this time
plan to have orig carb OH and use orig A/C
also need orig fuel lines etc.
also top rad hose, and washer bag
haven't decided if i'll put fresh air hose in or not.

Hello Dave,

I looked at your car last summer at the VIP show at Okoboji, very nice! I had my Z06 in the show last year, my '65 in 2009 and my '64 in 2008. I am a former rural Iowa resident and still own property at the lake. I am a member of the U of O club and good friends with Larry Dixon.

one thing i forgot to ask
was about the thermostat housing.
mine has the opening facing straight ahead.
was this correct for a 1x4 carb?
or should it be directed out towards the Left?

It does go the left, repros are available that look accurate.

I don't know how far you want to go to get things right under the hood, you have allot thats not.

I had my exhaust manifolds media blasted and they came out like new without altering the original texture, I highly recommend it. I would just do the basic stuff like the thermostat housing, upper radiator hose and clamps, then maybe the valve covers and air cleaner.

Maybe I missed it but is your engine a genuine 1x4 by the engine stamp?

my engine is a later 283!
plan to use the right hose clamps
when i get the right T. housing
and can install the right radiator hose.
i did sand blast the exhast manifolds
on my son's '66 mustang
and, your right, they turn out looking great
