also, here is a picture of the fuel pump i removed
during this 'engine bay freshing up'
it looks to be a different year than the 56's
      what year is it?
      is it worth anything?
      thanks

David, all used parts are worth something, and used Corvette parts usually have a good market. You need to provide more information about the markings on the pump. If you check the archives there are tons of threads that will help you. Here's one of them...

      https://www.forums.ncrs.org/showthre...+pump&uid=2822

With respect to your question on engine painting, the archives are also full of information, but here's a thread that should answer your question.

The factory did NOT use primer before painting the engine...

The 'screw together' AC pumps are getting harder to find with each passing day. Clean up the sides of the mounting flange and you should find a 4-digit number sequence stamped there that corresponds to the pump's original part number.

Early '56 pumps were '4262' while late pumps were '4346'. Both can be rebuilt with an overhaul kit and the early units are reasonably rare. So, don't throw this pump away!!!

A competent machine shop should be able to "V" the crack and weld it both sides, then grind flush so the block and water pump will seal correctly. Not a high tech job.

thanks for help about the mounting crack!

i found the # on the fuel pump:

                6942 JE

so it isn't right for my 56'

was it used on a later vette?

would anyone like to buy it?
(is there a special place to to this?)

                thanks

                  Re: iowa 56

i've noticed that when i painted
                  the engine bay fiberglass with
the black paint from 'corvette central'
that the rougher exposed areas of the fiberglass
stayed sticky or tacky for quite awhile
while the smooth areas dried within an hour or so.
will these areas every dry? and how long?
does anyone reglass and sand such areas smooth?
                  thanks

                    Re: iowa 56

i found that after painting the fiberglass in my engine compartment
that the area's that were frayed, or rough,
                    remained 'sticky' after several days!
the smooth area's dried within about one hour.
did these frayed rough area's become dissovled some
by the thinner in the paint?
                    and will it eventually dry?
                    thanks

                        these are the only parts
that remain for my power top.
i do have rotten canvas covering the original frame.
but.......this is a project for another winter!!

                            Hi David,
                            Can't find #6942, but this website http://www.old-n-good.com/parts/fuel...el_Pumps.shtml

shows pumps in the 6000 series appear to be 1963 vintage applications.

                              hi john
thanks for the link to the article
i see they show a picture of the circuit bracker.
interestingly, they show the red wire from the starter
and the red wire to the power windows...
but not the tan wire that goes across the front of the firewall
and down thru the 4 hole grommet
and eventually to the power top

also i found this u tube video of how the power top is supposed to work
i'd never seen it done before!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

these rims, i believe reflect the original
                                color of my 56

                                what color is this?
