The casting mark shown in Jim Bensko's photo (picture #3 in post #3 above) reminded me of something I noticed on the back of my instrument cluster a while back. I didn't know whether it was "99" or "66", or what it meant, but it makes sense now. It looks the same as the casting mark in Jim's third picture, except for the number of hash marks.
A "66" with 8 hash marks would be an August 1966 casting. As the second picture shows, the assembly stamp is December 8, 1966. This is the original instrument panel from my Jan. 11, 1967 car. The dash cluster has been restored, but the ink-stamp date was covered to preserve it.
