    Dave,
    Interesting thread and data, thanks for your research on this, one more piece in the overall assembly process puzzle.

      David,
      A friend just took a fuel pump off of his original 71 small block. Just thought I'd add some numbers to your research.

        David, You probably already know this but just in case. Verne Frantz has an extension survey on the pumps. You two would be well together. He's not on the DB anymore I believe.

            Dave,

            That's short for discussion board.

              Just for another data point: I have an LH40709 LT-1 Fuel Pump. I know it is original to the car (1971 LT-1 #5172 - built December 29, 1970) as I removed it from the car when I restored it in the 90s.Thanks, Troy MarquisOverland Park, KS

                I have a 080T40433 dated fuel pump. Did not think they maded a 40433 past 68 or 69. Any thoughts?

                  Re: AC fuel pump date code research data

                  Hi David,
                  I didn't realize you're collecting data on fuel pumps.
                  Another member told me about your project so here's the info from the 71 sb base motor pump in my car of which I'm the original owner.
                  The block was cast on Dec.31, 1970, the engine assembled on Jan.7, 1971, and the car built about Jan. 14, 1971.
                  There are lots of parts on the car dated the last week of 1970 and the first week of 1971.
                  I've also included a picture of 2 additional stamps on the flange.
                  Regards,
                  Alan

                    Re: AC fuel pump date code research data

                    Alan,

                    I'm sure you can figure out the date code on your pump by just referring to my very first post.
                    357J = the 357th day of 1970

                    In my very first post there is a 197J40726 (197th day of 1970) original pump from a 1970 Z28.
                    Also, there is a pump stamped "DJ40726" (April 1970) also from a 1970 Z28 made in April 1970.

                    Apparently AC changed their date code system during that time from a letter representing the month to the numerical day of the month possibly for more specific quality control purposes. However, maybe they changed the date code system to confuse future restorers.

                    IMO, your pump is definitely original to your car. Thanks for you input as if further proves my theory of AC fuel pump date codes.

                    Dave

                      Troy,

                      I just noticed your 6 month old post. I must have been asleep like Rip Van Winkle.
                      If you look in my very first post there are two "LH40709" pumps listed. One is from an engine stamped "V0114CTU" (Jan. 14, 1970) and the other is from an engine stamped "V0702CTK" (July 2, 1970). Your pump is from a Dec. 29, 1970, car.
                      IMO, the "LH" would be decoded December 1968. The only explanation that I could offer is that they had a stock pile of pumps made in December 1968 and used a lot of them in the year 1970.

                        Another post that I missed by 6 months.
                        IMO. your "080T40433" pump would be dated the 80th day of 1980.
                        J = 1970
                        K = 1971
                        L = 1972
                        etc.
                        T = 1980

                        The service fuel pump listed for a 1967 Corvette is GM # 6416712 as shown in my 1967 Chevrolet Parts Catalog (Apr. 1967).
                        GM # 6416712 = AC # 40503

                        According to Chevrolet Parts History (service parts):
                        GM # 6416497, 6416508, and 6416508 were all replaced by GM # 6416712 in Feb. 1967.

                        GM # 6416148 (AC # 40232) was a service pump on 67 Chevy II, Camaro w/4BBL 327,350 and 67 Chevelle w/SHP 327 models and was replaced by GM # 6416712 (date unknown).

                        I am trying to find out the GM part # for AC pump # 40433 in my vintage Chevrolet parts catalogs.

                          Dave - new to NCRS, just thought you might like another entry for your fuel pump data base. I purchased this car from it's original owner last year and have found over 30 original date coded items on the vehicle from September through December of 1972. Let me know if you have any questions or need any further information.

                          Thanks,

                            John,

                            IMO, the "305L" on the fuel pump would be the 305th day of 1972 which is 10/31/1972. I believe that there are those who still are not convinced that AC fuel pumps have stamped date codes. As best as I can remember the AC date code stamping started in the mid 1960's, maybe Dec. 1964 ("LD") or even a bit earlier.

                              David - I pulled what I believe to be the original Fuel Pump from my early production (November 9, 1965) 1966 L36 Coupe - The pump is 8E40366 which you indicated dated as 8th day 1965.

                                Peter,
                                I would say that your pump is original even though it is dated 10 months before your car was made. The assembly line was not like a grocery store that rotates their stock.
