Jack Panzica- RIP - (The car is packed and Europe awaits)

Resurrecting this old thread by Jack from 2011. In honor of Jack's passing 10 days ago.

    Hi to all,

I understand some of the difficulty that you are having locating the 48 state post. On other forums , they made a sticky post of it. You just had to open the forum and it was right on the top of the forum. That may not be possible here, or maybe it is. So, I will now use this new thread. There is a possibility of a European trip this year and I will keep all informed through this thread. So to continue................

I had to go on Wednesday to NYC for a night to clear my head and make a delivery of Plants and Seeds for a segment of Good Morning America. My wife is in charge of Sales and Marketing for Johnny's Select Seed of Maine, and GMA was doing a segment about Johnny's.

Got to bed reallllllly late and it felt great to hit the streets and clubs again. I was one of one who had grey hair.

For those who had asked.... I am definitely going to write a book on my travels. I am going to try my best to get as many of you as possible to drive your cars more. There are more years behind us than in front.

Time to stop polishing and to start driving.

To my European Corvette enthusiasts, be patient with me. I don't want to get to far ahead of myself. Please continue to post with info that will help me make a proper decision on transport, roads , boarder crossings, spies , intrigue and the such.

I can smell and taste the food already. I like wine too. Beer also for our Bavarian friends, and , Dutch, English and a little Scotch also.

    Jack

PS rack up another 671 miles on the car.

I think that is what will make it exciting. The unknown, the suspense, strange lands, strange people, situations that are new .

But, don't worry, still in the research stage. What could happen in Europe that couldn't have happen in the US. My car stolen? wallet with no money?

Your papers please. Who knows, it will be fun to see how it goes

        But thanks for your concern

        Jack

Jack, I loved this comment of your's.

My thoughts, exactly. I will be taking my '67 convertible on a full-length tour of Pacific Coast Highway within a few months of completing the restoration.
Why would I take a fresh frame-off restored, vintage Corvette....? Because I would have driven PCH in it, ...had I bought it new in 1967.
          I'm proud of you. Ridge...

Jack, I've spent a lot of time in Sweden, Germany, and England. Everyone in Sweden speaks English (except for that mom and pop jeweler in Malmo, even through they took AmEx). Probably the best Country to move around in alone if you've never been overseas (other than the UK). I've also been to Denmark, The Netherlands, and Belgium (and others) and these places are also similar in the fact that there is very little crime and the people are friendly. Good places to travel in a vintage Corvette with the help of some of our European and Scandanavian Vette friends.

I have very dear friends south of Paris, and while I doubt that they would put you up for the evening, they would be happy to help with your trip logistics and act as a tour guide if you wish. He is fluent in English and hers is passable although she is embarassed to speak it. Great people. Let me know if you wish to contact them.

Traveling alone in Europe is a piece of cake, and very enjoyable, although you will probably need to use the hotels more, and parts will be a problem.

Check with your State Commerce Department to see if they have economic development and trade specialists for specific Countries. These people travel all over foreign Countries developing business leads, usually alone. In my State we maintain economic development and trade offices overseas, and they are also attached to the Travel and Tourism Division. These people can assist greatly in your trip, if Maine has such offices. They can also put you in touch with the appropriate local tourism people who can help you.

Thank you Jack, I will need help no doubt. I will get back to you with questions soon. Right now I am seeing if the trip time wise, family , funding, etc. is possible.

                    Cheers

                      Thanks Paul,

Your card really hit the mark about dreams and reality. I will get back to you as soon as I deal with my family about the trip.

                        Jack,

I first started driving in Europe about 25 years ago and have been through literally every country in the EU without exception by either car or motorcycle or both, plus a number of the former eastern block countries. I imported a vehicle to Germany in the mid 90s for a period of two years and then brought it back here.

I wouldn't hesitate to do it again and really don't understand the 'don't push your luck' comment. Go for it.

It seems like it about $3,000 dollars. I am doing the homework now. I think from the posts it will be about 1 month to get car to Europe and the same to get it back.
