Re: McDorman Auction
The car was prepared for Mr. Knudsen at Chevrolet Engineering along with an Impala, Corvair and Chevy II that were all finished in Crimson Firefrost, a new metallic color that would debut on Cadillacs in 1965. (It's interesting that Semon Knudsen was colorblind, but hit a homerun with this color.) I provided Bob McDorman with a comprehensive title history from the Michigan Secretary of State when I sold him the car and have spoken with the design engineer (Abe Yeahey) who originally bought the car from the Exec. pool.
After completing the restoration (circa 1988), I took the car to the Knudsen's home in Bloomfield Hills and have a number of photos of him with the car. I also have photos of Bill Mitchell (VP of Styling) in the car taken just months before his passing. Richard Earl, grandson of Harley Earl, also provide me with a snapshot of BK inthe car when it was new, taken at their winter home in Palm Beach.
While the car was not prepared at GM Styling, it was modified by copying the Cobalt Blue '63 that was shown at the New York Auto Show, which was an S.O. car.
