    McDorman Auction

    Interesting auction.
I thought the prices tended to be low in some cases and high in others.
    Here are a few results:
    53 Corvette #118 sold for $132,000, was it correct, I don't know.
54 with bubble top sold for $130,000 then ran through with much confusion and sold for $50,000.
    55 S.N. 2 sold for $130,000
56 copper paint sold for $55,000 nice car in my opinion
57 #7 sold for $81,000, not a good car in my opinion.
    61 2 tops, $42,000, really poor condition
62, $71,000, looked great but low HP, numbers???
    63 Bunkie Knudsen roadster, $400,000
    63 Bill Mitchel car, $160,000
64 Florence Knudsen PINK CAR, big block, neat car$280,000.
Had a great time, met some nice people and didn't spend a dime.
    And the story goes on..

I think the black '57 was in better condition than the copper '56. JMHO.

...the '72 LT-1 Millie Red conv with blank engine pad and no trim tag got $50k

How much did the white 1960 Burt Reynolds car sell for? I used to own it before Bob bought it.

The 53 sold for $131k, if I remember correctly.

Paul, I too thought the Shark cars were very strong in sales. His collection of '70s cars were all very good low low low miles. Even the base motor automatics did well?

What were you looking for? Anything in particular or just looking?

          They were nice!

            Brett,
The 60 sold for $45,000 plus the 10% equals $49,500.
            Were you at the auction?
If so what did you think about the 53?

Brett, the Burt Reynolds '60 went for $45K.

...I liked the Yellow '76, the White '77 and the Yellow '80 L-82 car best. Would have bought for a fair price, not these Barret-Jackson prices.

...the low, low, low mileage mid/late '70s cars were very nice, the only thing I noticed that at one time it appears they might have been NCCC Concours prepped with a little spritzing of black paint in the wheel wells. The Yellow '76 had black paint on the fenderwell lips instead of bodycolor just inside the lips.

...the Silver '74 had a new rear bumper installed and the '75 Orange roadster had both front and rear bumpers installed since the NCRS Regional there in Sept.

...I've been watching the Orange '75 roadster for a few decades being an L-82 4spd Z07 car, but it's had a great amount of "massaging" done to it. Again NCCC prepping when the car was a few years old???

I was there. The 53 sold for about the right money in today's market. Wrong engine and in need of a complete restoration. That would cost around $100k in itself. That puts it at around $245k. That's all their bringing freshly restored and correct for judging.

                  Thanks, Bruce and Paul.

                    ...a '79 for $35K??? I haven't seen a '79 bring more than $12K since Bush was in office.

Because of my interest in a blue 54 I almost went out to bid on that car. How do you explain the shift from $130,000 to $50,000? I can't imagine what kind of concern would produce a $80,000 drop.

That's how you tell a car is cool. If it makes me look REALLY good ! Unfortunately, standing beside it will be as close as I get. Someday.

I didn't watch that car go through. I can tell you that I was trying to help them get it started but one choke cable was missing. The reear carb was not getting choked at all. They flooded the heck out of it and kept spraying ether into the dual pot setup. It quickly caught fire at the carbs and also the frame rail where all of the gas had dripped. Pretty big fire. They were reluctant to use a fire extenguisher beacuse of the halon mess. They finally had to spray the dual pot full of halon. Nasty.

Probably had to push it across the block. $50k was a lot of $$ for that car anyway. It needed a complete restoration.
