I think a lot of you guys are not aware that only a small proportion of your oil comes from those countries you love to hate in the Middle East.

In Missouri, retailers are allowed to sell ethanol free gas when it's price is more than unblended gas. I think we have been ethanol free for some time now. You will see 10% at some stations.

As your #1 source of import oil we have no shortage, yet almost everything here is 10% ethanol also. I have no idea why - as to my knowledge we don't have millions of acres of corn production.

The OEM injectors on my 90 ZR1 (all 16 of them) did not survive long on ethanol contaminated fuel.

Fortunately for my 67 - Chevron offers ethanol free 94 Octane at almost all their stations

          Re: More Ethanol Into Gasoline

John, I have put over 8 thousand miles on my 63 fuely since a year ago last May and not one bit of a problem. I found a gas station in my city that sells fuel without ethanol in it and it does run better and starts better hot and does not percolate as bad ( thanks to Joe C. on this forum) but I have been watching for leaks and I restored it with the old style kit without the ethanol proof stuff that we discussed. I suspect that when I hit 10 thousand miles I'll be less concerned about leaks and fires. Maybe all these units that you are hearing about are on soft engines or something. Mine only has 100 thousand miles on it. Recently I put over 800 miles on it on a two day road trip and got 21MPG at a speed of 85 MPH. I also calibrated a low mileage 61 250 horse unit for a friend, and he told me that it runs better than it ever has since he has owned it. He doesn't have any problem with the ethanol either. Maybe it's the mile high air or lack thereof. It's a good life when you drive them. Paul

I just read that NASCAR will be using fuel with ethanol in 3 of it's divisions.

And for the farmers. But I have nothing against farmers trying to make a living. It's been proven it takes more fuel to produce the ethanol than it's benefit. Also it reduces crops produced for humans which in turn raises prices and possibly will cause shortages. Oh well...

Since those NASCAR cars are rebuilt frequently, they are all newer than 2007 so corn fuel should be no issue for them. It is a good PR stunt for NASCAR. Inclusion of alcohol in gasoline is still bad public policy.

GM was pushing NASCAR for E-85 the same as they use in the racing corvettes. that would mean too many pit stops in NASCAR because of the MPG reduction over gasoline so they settled for E-15. the feds still pay farmers not to grow crops so i don't think there is a shortage of corn crop. up in north central Pa where our camp is the fields that were corn last year are grass this year.

Don't forget that Indy cars run alcohol and it's used in drag racing also.

the indy cars switched from methanol to ethanol several years ago but the dragster still use methanol

Have you been following "Corn Futures"??? I have and they have the largest % increase over any other commodity. I wonder why??
Even though I prefer the EVIL and ILLEGAL AVGAS for my BELLA I am considering in investing in CORN FUTURES!
Makes sense to me! I know where things are going!!

Just as long as a am able to buy AVGAS for "BELLA" for as little as I drive her.

Pure-gas.org is the definitive web site listing stations that sell pure gasoline in the U.S. and Canada.

I use VP Racing Fuels methanol alcohol in my top alcohol funny car. When we warm it up in the pits before we take it to the staging lanes I run it for 120 seconds and shut it off. During that time it idles at 2,250 RPM, and we do one stage RPM check at 6,500 RPM for 5 seconds to set the clutch and do a computer dump just before we shut it off. In 120 seconds of warm up it burns almost 6 gallons of fuel.

Oil companies do not benefit from ethanol in gasoline or they would have been putting it in for decades. Ethanol in gasoline is welfare for farmers.
