    68 : Master Cylinder Cap

    Hello everyone,
I was told at the recent Chapter meet that I had the wrong cover. I located one , The front cup says "Service with"up top and "Delco parts" on the bottom. The rear cup says "Use Delco" up top and "Brake Fluid" on the bottom. The manual says the rear cup has" Use Delco Brake Fluid ONLY".The gentleman says the one I purchased is correct. Any photos or help would be much appreciated. Thanks, Jeff

Jeff, I don't think the USE DELCO BRAKE FULID ONLY is correct for the 68's, but you never know.

The 68 master cylinder cap should have the "J1703". Other than that it looks the same as a 67.

if that is the case then the letters should not be stacked.

              Jeff

The JG is wrong. The 67 and 68 caps are the same. Attached is a photo of a 68 cap.

The SAE J1703 text did not come along until 1969 or possibly late 68.

Thanks all, those are great pics Jack and John. This is the cover I have. Both pics show the covers to be mainly silver cad. The one I have looks more of the yellow cad. Could this just be the picture . Thank You again, Jeff This is good news !

The finish should have a yellow tint. In my picture you are seeing the bare steel. I was trying to remove some rust from the cap with "America's Safest Rust Remover" and it removed the finish. Good product, just don't use on mc caps.

The original cap on my early '69 is also the same.

Re: 68 : Master Cylinder Cap

This thread needs some clarification. The judging manual seems to have added a word that does not appear on the '68 master cylinder cap. One dome has "Service with Delco Parts" and the other dome "Use Delco Brake Fluid" The word 'only' does not appear on the cap. That is where the JM is incorrect.

Has anyone found other mistakes in this area? The '68/'69 manual is going through revision at this time.

Opened the hood this morning to change covers. I had the correct cover all along. Thats ok, I'll make copies of this post and bring it along to future meets. Good part is we are always learning about these cars. Judges are human also. Jeff

Jeff, as you know that car went through two NCRS Regionals, '03 Stone Mtn. & Pittsburgh, one Chapter meets, '04 Windsor NCRS Nat'l Convention for 4 Star Bowtie & two judging schools and it was never called on as being incorrect.
