I recieved a call saying that when a california dealer got a NEW car from an out of state dealer that the car had to be brought up to california standards, (smog being the one at the time).
He called it a PDI (pre delivery inspection). Once done they re did the vin tag to reflect the change.
I have seen this tag on the vette as long as I've owned it.

I wonder if it is even possible to weld a tag in that place with the car in tact.
Don't misunderstand, nothing is impossible to have occurred with these old cars, from the factory or dealer. It is just that I have never seen anything like this when I spent over a year searching for a'67 L71, but that doesn't mean it didn't happen of course. I think it is possible for a dealer to have added the K19 option (A.I.R. system), but just think it odd that the VIN was changed to reflect that and a plate welded on the frame. Also, the '67 judging manual has no mentions of such a variant, so if yours is authentic, it is very rare and should be documented in the next manual update. You should report this variant to the '67 chief judge at a national or regional and discuss.

      Ronald,
Thanks for validating my sweat and hard work.

Two snakes tried to get the car before I started my 2nd restoration.
One high preasured me offering me cash in a bag. They were friends and when I wouldn't cave in the other turned me on to another who (for the right price) could fix the paper work & tags.
If I did that I would loose more than the value gained.

2 aluminum tags= real or not real? Does this mean that if the tags are stollen the car is ???
My dad was born in 1895 with out a birth cirtificate (papers). Believe me there wasn't anything fake or "not real " about him.

I am interested in what you said about NICB. Is that the same as a police report? Maybe there is hope.

Thanks Ron for the lift, and Joe for catching the date mistake, and the rest of you who helped.

        Dom,

On the topic of theft, your insurance agent should be able to query the NICB for this info. Mine did get this reply as I was pushing him to get me the NICB shipping data they have. We got that as a reply, that being "they do not share ther data, the good news is your car.."

If you ask your agent the right way, you should be able to get that, wrecks are the second thing. You probably could get the date of the wreck as you know that happened too.

Cali cars in 1966 got DMV emission inspections - even if essentially new, I have a owners booklet from a Cali VIN 194376s114xxx with that inspection inside. You might try to get the CAli DMV to get some back cert history and perhaps find the original owner. Document the history, you've had the car a long time and that alone has kept a lot of the rif raf from screwing up the car and faking it. 30 years ago there were people faking L88's left and right, so by now with a much needed restoration fake has become real.

If all else fails with those scammers and insulters, send them the ultimate gift certificate for a free pair of boots.
