Re: Ebay: seller won't sell car after winning it!

John, very sorry you had the bad experience.

I agree with those who recommend leaving the seller a negative. That's not much, but at least one tries to warn others.
The comment about "will probably start a new seller ID", is likely correct.

I've said this many times before, so will not bore anyone with the long version of the story.
In the past, I sold about $250K worth of vintage car parts on eBay, over a roughly seven year period.
When Meg Whitman left as CEO, and John Donahoe was named eBay CEO, I left for good.

Currently, the only interest eBay has is their bottom line profits. No concern for sellers, no concern for buyers. They see it as there is an endless stream of new suckers coming to eBay every year. That's my personal opinion.

I won't even state what I think of PayPal. It wouldn't be appropriate on this forum.

    Ridge.

The venue that I use most is Proxibid, which is for licensed auctioneers. They will not stand for games, non payers, dead beats etc. I just wish that eflea had 1/10 of the ethics that Proxibid does.

Re: Ebay: seller won't sell car after winning it!

I sold a non-car part on Ebay for $3500.00. The buyer claimed that item was scratched and damaged. We exchanged some emails, he got annoyed and filed with Paypal. Paypal took the money back and asked for my comments on the claim.

I sent Paypal my photos and a photo the buyer took and sent to me. I also wrote a long letter as to why I believed the buyer was actually committing fraud. After three weeks I got my money back from Paypal and the buyer kept the item.

In this case I was happy with Paypal. The message is, post as many photos as possible to protect the seller.

About the car....I'd file with Paypal, you will probably not get the car if it's a true seller error, but it will put the seller on record with Paypal and others depending on how you word the feedback.

I spoke to a friend today who works for Mecum Auctions in settlements. She said sellers can back out of a sale after the gavel drops. Mecum still collects all of their fees from the seller, and the buyer can recover any costs he incurred in his quest for the vehicle. So any travel, lodging, or other fees paid to determine actual value of the vehicle, or research work done.

That may be written into Mecums contract, but it is NOT a part of the eBay sales agreement.

Leave a NEGATIVE feedback for the seller. It will affect his future sales forever. Sorry this happened to you...

Re: Ebay: seller won't sell car after winning it!

I know that this thread has turned into a bash ebay and paypal thread, and I feel the same as everyone else. I was just wondering, though, if Alexander's ebay link posted above is the corvette that we're discussing, what everyone thinks the actual value of the car is as it's described. For John, I know that the starting bid was $50K, but what was the "Buy it now" price that the seller listed?

When you're selling something as valuable as this corvette with a starting bid of $50K you're going to pay attention to the auction and in this case the seller would have noticed the lack of a suitable reserve. I think he originally intended to sell it for whatever he could get at or over $50K. I'm just wondering if the seller received an equal or higher offer offline after the auction ended and decided to accept the offline offer to avoid paying some of the ebay and paypal charges he would have otherwise incurred.

I'd notify ebay about the situation and then move on, and let ebay sort it out with the seller. You might want to let ebay know that you won't wait long for resolution, say 3-4 days, and after that your bid should be considered retracted. That might light a fire under them to get it resolved.

                    Thanks.

Re: Ebay: seller won't sell car after winning it!

This seller deserves a hard yank weggie followed by a stiff noogie for sure. At the very least someone should run that tag so we can all send him hate mail....

I'm very sorry for the problem you are experiencing, but you might as well laugh it off. Neither eBay or Paypal are going to help you. A lawsuit will only cost you money with no promise to win. Save your money and put it toward another car.

                      good luck,
                      tc

Despite the sellers temperment, I'd personally pass on this one. Either he's not to good a decision maker or he just can't read the Ebay rules, whatever, he's not going quitely. For as much money you have on the line, I'd throw this one back. I'll bet he sat down and did the math on just how much he's actually going walk away with after forking over a good chunk to Ebay and he's just not going to do that. FWIT He be back with a 'New' email address and registation and maybe then he'll offer it up again for sale ?

The whole feedback question is total BS , in a situation where a seller sold me an item which was an obvious counterfeit, I left said negative feedback for him, the next thing that happened was that he in turn left negative feedback for me..
It took a bunch of time and quite a few headaches to get that removed, in fact after FleaBay "mediation" we both had to "agree to disagree" and then they removed the negative from BOTH parties leaving me stuck with a fake item.

forget this chump and move on.... Best of Luck , Dave.

And if he did have to sell you the car, I wonder how many nuts and bolts were loosened up prior to delivery (including the crankshaft mains, oil pan, exhaust, etc). And maybe a loose nut dropped another loose nut down that carburetor. I also say fawgettaboutit.

Have registered a complaint with Ebay. As everyone has said, they have not done anything other than give him a slap on the wrist and informed me I can leave neg feedback. Considering my options. Thanks for all the help.
