    1963 Coupe Antenna

Was the antenna used for the base radio car a fixed mast or an adjustable mast. The car was built the third week of December 1962. Any help would be very much appreciated.

Manual adjustable mast. Early car should have a wonderbar radio without a surround around the outside edge of the hole.

..as Bill said, but it didn't completely retract. The bottom section of the "telescope" is fixed.

Thank you for the reply. It does have the original Wonderbar radio. The antenna present at the time for disassembly for rebuild was a fixed mast antenna that appeared to be original, hence the question.

Only VERY EARLY AMs (3500 or so) will not have the trim around the radio hole. Changeover to AM-FM O/A 13000.

I believe later C2s had a fixed length antenna mast, so what you may have is a later GM replacement. Probably not to may 45+ year old cars have their original antenna.

Duke is right. I believe 67 used a fixed mast. 63 to 66 was adjustable. Welcome to you and your 63. Always glad to have another 63 in the house !

Craig, In the old days Chevy sold an over the counter replacement antenna that was far from correct. It was way too high in every position. Extended or not.
Seems to be a lot of NOS ones on the market today that are correct in height. Maybe someone can chirp in here and tell you the correct measurements. JD
