Dave, let me try to explain that there are several instances in which an owner might want the confirmation service.

An owner could lose his awards and want something showing the awards he's gotten. An owner could pass away, and his family might want to confirm what awards the car recieved. And there could be an instance where a buyer would insist that the seller provide the confirmation service to prove the owner's awards are not fake.

The point of some of us is WHATEVER the reason an owner might want the service for - whether it makes sense to anyone else or not - that owner should not have to pay to confirm the awards he's already paid handsomely to get in the first place.
Pat you are absolutely correct and that is the exact point I was making. If an owner wants to get verification for his car he is going to have to pay $300 regardless of the fact he already paid each time to get it judged.

Through this thread something that I would think would raise concern is apparently the ease an award can be forged. Some have stated their awards don't have a seal or some Chapter awards aren't numbered. In the past (70's or 80's) maybe this wasn't a concern but that was the day before the $100,000 plus Corvette.

      very good point, Shooter.

Very likely, the sheer value of rare cars has driven this cart..........

        Myriad thread response

This is risky at best - Mr Lyman would appear to want to confine this board to the search/validation of part #s and a listing of known factory procedures, shift-by-shift. Good Luck.
Then we have the "They didn't guarantee their answers" group. The question for the panel was, in recognition of the current economy downturn, if you have multiple Corvettes and need $$$, which should be sold and which should be held, and, if it presents itself, what should you step up to buy.
If you have been into Corvettes for longer than one week, there are two questions with regard to both cars and parts: Is it real and is it priced over/below market? Even to a Fxxd guy, if its real and underpriced, you just became a buyer.
I don't know if some of the questioners realize how many YEARS the panelists have been involved with Corvettes, some as a vocation/job. Over those years, these people paid attention. I'm sure that Terry M and Roy S and the others have buried KNOWN references about these cars. Do they owe you as a NON-PAYING seminar attendee a full list of these Yes/No checklists - NO!
But should you pay attention to what these people look at and evaluate? If you don't, go buy some cheese to go with that whine......

While I have to agree with Mr. Lundbergs assesment of the comments by Mr. Lyman as to the purpose of the TDB, it also left me wondering if I was the target of his other comments, but for some reason he did not choose to call me out by name as with Mr. Lyman. If not that is fine. If so (which is also fine), I do wish he would be feel free to clarify this for me, so that I could then feel free to clarify mine. If anyone BELIEVES I was whining about anything, they could not be more wrong.

In my opinion, if Roy, Al and whoever else provided assistance in making more information available to the average Corvette buyer - stamp pads, trim tags, prior awards, etc. then I say hats off. If it makes it easier to do homework and prevents what's been going on with the purchase of some used Corvettes - in my opinion then it's a good thing
For those members who have a concern over being charged to get information they feel they already paid for, go on file with your Regional Director. You never know perhaps at least some type of discount program could be worked out.
Either way I think it's great that we are trying to do something to protect a possible new Corvette owner.
