<Has anyone been to Shelby Automobiles in Las Vegas. Is the factory in the same spot I believe they have tours there but cannot find an address for the factory ?

this doesn't answer the question, but when Shelby was in Reventlow's old Scarab "factory" in Venice (or maybe culver City) I stopped by and looked through the door.

Later, Cobras and GT-40s were "built" at the old LA airport. They offered tours and a buddy and I took one.

Just drove by there a few weeks ago and not even sure that building is still there or which one it was.

For our eleventh annual fall celebration of the Legends of Motorsport, the Petersen Automotive Museum presents "Tribute to Trans-Am" on Thursday, November 12, at 6:00 p.m. The evening will begin with cocktails and a Museum presentation that includes an exhibit of famous Trans-Am race cars that will be on display until December 13. Following will be dinner and a film screening of Trans-Am racing's action-packed history. Renowned drivers and team principals will be introduced on stage to tell some of their best stories--both passionate and amusing--about racing in the Trans-Am series. < There was only one Vette there when I went last spring, a C1 racer type (not my cup of tea), but many other very rare and interesting cars.

Any idea which one? Definitely MY cup of tea!

Not sure, it was a '59-'60, white with a black circle with white numbers on it on the sides and hood. Seems the headlights were taped off. There was a sign but I don't recall what it said. Just that it had won races I think.

Hey cobber, if you like things that make a lot of noise and go fast, give the National Museum of the Air Force at Wright-Patterson AFB near Dayton, Ohio a sticky beak. Not automotive but a super place to visit.

I second that! It is a great museum with fantastic displays. Bi-Planes to Space Capsules and everything in between. I assume they still restore planes there. I got a private tour of the restoration shop while in the hospital at Wright-Pat. Unbelievable what those guys got to work on!

Dennis Albaugh's collection in Ankeny, Iowa is a must see if you are going west from Detroit. He has one of every Chevrolet since it was the Little Car company in 1912 before Louie C. took it over. I'm sure you can get entrance if advance notice is made. It's just north of Des Moines on Interstate 35 from Interstate 80 out of Chicago. He had every Corvette imagineable and one of every Chevy Convertible ever made, over 115 cars, two years ago. Probably more now. Just a suggestion.

I don't think anyone has suggested Bob McDorman's collection. Although Bob's collection is not usually open to walk-ins, if you stop by his dealership in Canal Winchester, OH and there happens to be a group making a tour perhaps you can tag along if agreeable to the tour leader. Just a thought.

Dennis Albaugh's collection of cars is NOT open to the public. I think he opened it up last year to raise money for charity. I believe they are thinking about doing something in June 2010. So I will be on standby ! It's a pitty it's not opened to the public it's kind of a waste to collect all these cars and have no interest of showing them ? I suppose he owns them and can do what he wants with them. Stewy

I'm not to concerned if I see Corvettes because I will be coming back from Bowling Green Kentucky Corvette Museum. Thanks everyone for your responses it's great. I will be traveling back by car from NY to Chicago then down the mother road 66 to LA. If anyone knows of petrol head stuff I can see along the way I would really appreciate it. Stewy
