Re: What other car would you sell your car for

Well when I first started the restoration of my 69 the plan was to go hardcore and do it right and then sell it and get a nice driver 68-69 tri-power vert. That is still my plan and it will happen.

Now there is such a long list of other Corvettes that I'd like to own I won't even try to list them but there is ONE car that I'd trade all my other cars for. This was the movie that got me into cars and this was the car. "you got the fastest car in the valley!"

John what is with the big arse front bumper.
I drove to a dealer 20 years ago with a blank cheque in the passenger side, I still remember this, I was so nervous I was nearly sick !! When I got there I noticed the car wasn't in the lot I asked where the 308 GTSi quatrovalve was and the sales guy said it's just getting prepped it was bought this morning buy a business guy ! I nearly fell to my knees nearly crying. Back then they were not falling out of trees over here so I never ended up buying one. My wife was very happy I told her I decided not to buy it deep down inside I was crushed. So I ended up buying a Lotus what a mistake I still think I'm paying for it !!

Mark, is that a photo of the '67 275 GTB offered for sale at Penske-Wynn Ferrari in Las Vegas. I was out there in August, and they had one just like this for sale in the showroom. Price.....1.3 million.
And by the way, Stewy.... interesting thread. I noticed that it's had over 1,000 views and plenty of interesting posts. Who in the world rated it a one star (terrible)? Seems to me a majority of TDB visitors enjoyed it's thought.

The U.S. version had to meet the DOT/NHTSA bumper impact requirements, but it was reasonably well-integrated into the design (compared to some other less-attractive tacked-on globs on U.S. versions of British cars). The U.S.-spec bumpers were also 40# heavier.

John can you remember if your 308 had red gauges and red switches on the console. I really loved that interior I can still remember the tan seats with the red gauges. Stewy

'Beautiful 250 John! Reminds me of when I was in college driving my Chevy with leaking heater core. Each morning I passed a tarp covered car next to a house on a small hill. I finally stopped one November morning but no one was home so I peeked--- It was a well worn TR 250 customer car! Pitted Borrani's, flat Engleberts, etc. I left a note on the door but never got an answer. I stopped again when the fellow was in the yard, Spring by this time. He said it was not for sale and never would be. I left name and number again with an offer. The next Fall the car was gone and I never got a call.

I don't think I'll ever sell the 62 because it's been in the family since new, but I'd love a 356, an old Mini and a Bug Eye Sprite.

I second that emotion. The '59 is not for sale; it is (neglected) family.

But I have a list of one car from each year of the 60s I'd love to own. I'm sure I could come up with a list of exotics ('61 250 SWB GT is on that list!) and classics (will need Jay Leno's phone number).

How much is the lottery up to?

For years, people would ask me if I could only have one car, what would it be?

I'd answer "Steve McQueen's Jaguar XKSS"

Unfortunately, the folks with the big money agreed with me and now it's probably out of reach for me.

Nope - no red gauges or switches on the U.S. version.

Ian is that 1935 Duesenberg Convertible SJ LA Grand Dual-Cowl Phaeton have what they call a boat tail rear ? I think they make a flop of it (kit style car). I saw one at our picnic at hanging rock this year. It was white and someone had spent a pretty penny on it. If I recall it had a new style 5.5 V8 Merc motor shoe horned into it. Very, very nice looking car. Stewy
