Could one of the moderators petition whomever is in charge of ads in driveline to ban them? Surely we don't need Chicago Corvettes money that badly, to risk our own members getting screwed over.

I've wondered the same thing myself. However, he's been in business a LONG time, at least back to the mid 80's and, I think, well before that.

        Re: Chicago Corvette

Having lived and worked near by Chicago Corvette for many years, I had several occasions to use their services. I found the only way to deal with them was to drop in and raise holy hell with them. Even then, they managed to loose my alternator pulley for my SHP 63 for about 3 months when they rebuilt it. Took awhile and a few visits for it to reappear.

You know, any time you see someone advertise items that you know darn well are hard to get, you have to be suspicious. Of course, there is the old Chicago ordering system, i.e. put your order in and wait until they find exactly what you want on someone elses car and then are able to perform their five finger discount. For instance, a model specific AFB carb from say a 63 SHP like mine is more difficult to find now days because it may already have been replaced by an aftermarket carb.

Note; I'm not implying that they use the old system yet today.

I can't remember the occasion, but I recall seeing Al’s membership number is in the low three digits. He has been around for a while.

Back a bit there was a lot of discussion here about a parts for sale section to the site, and EVERYONE wanted to buy from a fellow member due to confidence in the transaction. Yes, right.

it would probabaly mean more coming from the moderators who have a little more clout... otherwise its like, "Hi, I'm Ian. Could you not take $200 from Al Fierke, cause I heard he's a bum"

                Re: Chicago Corvette...

About 15 years ago, I bought a completely rebuilt 4:11 positraction unit with a new ring and pinion from them for my '57 street rod. Cost me about $800. When you send them back your rebuildable core, they refund you $300. So I put it on the charge card and I did get it pretty fast; in a cardboard box...no packing, no nothing. I was lucky it wasn't manhandled or broke up by UPS.

So I sent them back my completely ragged out 3:08 rear and never got my $300 back. After a month, I checked with UPS and they me sent me a copy of the ticket the guy signed when it arrived at their loading dock. Then I called the accounting department at CC and told them I never got my core money back and I faxed them the signed UPS ticket proving that they had it in their possession. Guess what, in a week I got a check from them for $300! Still can't figure out how I got so lucky after reading about them now. Maybe they were a class act back in '92. PT

                  On a positive note...

I ordered from Paragon Corvette an interior rear quarter panel retainer kit, and a few other items. The box came in a couple days ago and was crushed in the middle badly damaging the trim parts. I picked it up at a UPS Store and immediately showed them to see about a claim. They said they could file a claim but UPS would throw it back saying it was "improperly packed". i called Paragon and they apologized for the inconvenience and immediately shipped a new set at no charge, no questions asked. I'll be ordering more from them.

If I recall correctly Chicago Corvette was located originally on Archer Ave , St, blvd , rd. as was J.C. Whitney and Lectric Limited. Once I called Lectric Limited in the 90's and the woman answered the phone "Chicago Corvette" . I do remember a friend picking up a complete TI for a 67 , 435 from them at Carlisle in the early 80's and it was a great deal. Recently another friend ordered a 63 air blower motor from them and has not received it but billed a few times for it. He told me when he called the Card to complain the woman said" Them again?"

                        Doc,

Al was in the hardware business on Archer back in the 70's. I think he converted that into Chicago Corvette. I visited his hardware business and delivered a 64 part to him in the early 70's. My how time flies when you are having fun.

                          Mike,
Tim's association with Al came as LL was being sold.
Not during the time he started nor the early years when he owned it solely.

J.C.Whitney was at 1900S State Street in Chicago (same address as Warshowsky (sp) and at the same with the same catalog. But the were about 20 miles from chicago corvette
The only way I have ever done any business with them is with cash and only when I go to their store to be able to pick it up. I have never ordered anything and will not accept a "back order" from them either.

Boy, Boy, look at the old timers, NCRS low numbers, coming out to reminisce about our lowlife buddy. I thought the low numbers would equal high numbers in age but as it turns out they are my age and that’s scary, like going to your old high school reunion and seeing all the old people that got into you class. I once heard that, it was some ridiculous % (maybe 75), of vette owners were 58 or older. Maybe Honda will come out with a big block for the younger generation.

                                Don,
While the street address for JC Whitney/Warshawsky was on State Street, the store was on the corner where Archer Ave. dead-ended into State Street. In Chicago Archer Avenue is the same street as Archer Road in Justice.

                                For more business history: http://www.jcwhitney.com/autoparts/A...-10101/s-10101

Roy Warshawsky had an outstanding collection of classic cars. My job (although I didn't work for his) got me access to that collection from time to time.

The company is now located in Western Illinois along Interstate 80 at the intersection of I39 and I80 in LaSalle Illinois.
