    Re: Pontiac Dead, Corvette Next?

In the 'for what it's worth column'......here in Eastern Oregon, known by the Portland folks as the armpit of the state, the Chev and Ford (and some Dodge) trucks are still selling....mainly because 80% of the population drive trucks. A few hybrid cars in my little town, owned mostly by the ladies that work at the bank. And a few brand new Corvettes can be seen on the road around Hermiston to the north of here.
I may never own a new Corvette, but the old one will be fine......meanwhile, I will sit out in my home garden (that legislation is trying to ban) with my shotgun (that more legislation is trying to ban) with enough ammo (also on the 'ban' list) to make it worth my while, should someone be dumb enough to come to enforce anything.
    Cheers, Sandy

By the way Stuart, the heck with learning Spanish.....I'm studying Mandarin Chinese (with a horrible accent, so I've been told) as a hedge for the future.

        Sandra;

I hedged my bets soon after Nixon went to China. I married a gal from Thailand whose father was from Faiyun (sp), China and Mother from the Laotion Royal family. She's all American now, knows all the double meanings and cuss words from our version of the English language. It's her Chinese (Mandarin) that she needs to brush up on, Ha!

Are we missing an opportunity here?

What about all of us enthusiasts getting together and buying Corvette from GM? I mean the whole thing, the plant, the brand name, etc. We would still have to get our engines, etc. from Chevrolet.

Might be a bargain right about now.

Can't you see all of us running CMC (Corvette Motor Corporation).

Wait a minute, that might be worse than the govt running it.

Why do they insist on buying into the Global Warming THEORY hook, line and sinker, when it is only a THEORY and there is plenty of Scientific Evidence and Scientific Scholars that dispute it. But, since Al Gore is of course the most Knowledgible Liar who is for it, they refuse to let any non-believers testify about their Evidence, Theories or even their Opinions. Haven't we been down this path before many times in History? Don't we ever learn? Seems to me it is just part of the progressive left's way to eventually control us. B.S.

Maybe I have missed something, didn't the Auto Companies ask the US Goverment to bail them out?

I really don't think that the Govt wants to be in the car business.

              Just my thoughts.

                Re: Pontiac Dead, Corvette Next?

First, Oldsmobile was eliminated due to poor sales, now Pontiac. Poor sales is what dooms car lines. How many Corvettes are produced per year when there is no financial problems? Can low volume be tolerated by a company teetering on bankruptcy? I don't know. It all depends upon Corvette being a profitable car for GM in "good times".

I have heard rumors that the Corvette, being a low volume "niche car", will NOT survive a bankruptcy, as a Chevrolet. I have also heard rumors that the Corvette will be moved to the Cadillac division to replace their even poorer-selling (but still expensive) XLR sports car. GM could even sell the rights to the Corvette name, all the tooling, the Bowling Green plant, etc. to another company. The new company could continue making and selling Corvettes. If this happens, they simply will no longer be Chevrolet Corvettes. How about Callaway Corvette or Lingenfelter Corvette, or even Lotus Corvette? Just some thoughts.

In the meantime, I am buying a 2010 Corvette this fall. -Clark

Good Show Stuart, with your choice of wife!
The global warming is a total myth.....not far from where I live is one of the paentologist (sp) hot spots in North America.
Shows clearly right in the rocks where anyone can see, the transition from this area being cold to tropical to a colder climate again and to the desert it is now.....a natural ebb and flow of climate change and whatever living at the time dying off.
But, apparently, we (the global we) have to have a cause (or government sponsered diversion from the truly important stuff), so........

global warming should increase the growing seasons so there will be more crops and we will need to burn less fossil fuel to keep warm. what is wrong with that ??

I personally, as a taxpayer, do not want to use government bailout funds to subsidize the sale of cars which cannot make it on their own.

The car is not overpriced. It's a bargain. It surely meets the needs of most of us. Good looks, power, reliability, good resale, etc. The list goes on and on. The Corvette is a fantastic automobile.

My thoughts: The system is fouled up. The huge incentives and rebates are on 2008's ( as of today 4-30 ). Dealers who have a huge stock of 2008's have not done the job to get rid of them. ( Like the guys asking full MSRP for one, no discounts, poor service, etc. ) These guys are now getting the incentives. A reward for sitting on these cars too long.

With 0% and big rebates on 08's, it makes it a struggle to sell the 09's. Why make it tough on the dealers who are selling the 2009 Corvettes effectively ?? The 08's have been on the shelf for over a year, those dealers should have moved them out months ago. I have 09's that people will buy once the incentives get up to speed with the 08's. Give the people a reason to buy the 09's ! I would love nothing more to sell out of 09's in May and then refill the showroom with 2010's !! I'll do it too !

Dealer here has '07 Convertible, bottom dollar is $55k, 2 '09 Z-06 no less than MSRP plus all the normal b.s. that they tack on, usually over $500. I wonder if they were in on the webcast yesterday?

I wonder why my E-Mail alerts showed a post by Ian Gaston relative to our complaining about taxes in this thread. It seems to have disappeared. Perhaps he withdrew it when he actually read the thread, but he did have a lot of information to support his position that we are not, as yet, being over taxed. Actually, in re-reading the thread, I only saw the word tax used a few times, but not in complaint of the rates at all????????

Dick, I'll bet that your local dealer will not sell even one '09 Z06 at sticker price! Mine was $10K off MSRP, currently scheduled to begin trim on 20 May, off the line on 26 May, can be picked up at the museum on 8 June.
                                Best regards.
