Re: original 55 oil pan photos please
Roy,
What would you use...say you had a non-baffle oil pan?
I have what I thought was the correct dip stick and tube for a "55" until
I looked at the parts book.
It shows:
Length of tube.. 55 ALL (8cyl.) O.L 7 1/4"
55 Corvette (8cyl.) O.L 7 1/16"
Gauge Stick... 55 (8cyl.) ALL, Corvette single piece..
From Stop to Add Mark... ( A )
17 3/64"
From Stop to Full Mark... (B)
19 3/64"
What I have is:
Tube.. 6 5/16"
Stick.. (A) 17 15/16"
(B) 19 1/8"
Measure is approx. correct.
(B) would be correct
(A) aprox. 3/4" + difference.
Anybody have the measurements? Roy?
I have a couple dated In-take Manifolds . Still trying to figure what build
Dated numbers to use.

Karl.
Intake date is 6 months from build date (isn't that what the JM said)??? Vary early intakes don't have a date code!!!
Did this HELP you??

Re: original 55 oil pan photos please
Roy,
Thanks for the pictures.
The Stick I have is one piece. The end is cut on a slant.
I'll try to get a picture back to you if I can figure out how.
I have Windows Vista now. should be called (Windows Miserable)
The tube I have might be right. It's that length and curbed.

Re: original 55 oil pan photos please
Roy,
The intakes I have are dated. I think I have G and H dates. (2)
I know 6 mos. is a rule of thumb, but you would think for a "55" it would have to be more narrowed?
I know there are 55's close to my number, earlier and later. How would a person inquire about them? What do their numbers show? How close or far apart are they. To do an engine right, a person would have to stamp the boss in a correct way? I guess this should be posted in the Forum as a new item.
I know I will never have an orginal... (OUT OF THE FACTORY CORVETTE)
But realize I can have a restored to specs one, in appearence.
Thanks,

Re: original 55 oil pan photos please
Dennis,
They all enter the oil pan.
Seriously, is the question you are asking...Point of entry?
The Block or the tube attached to oil pan?
The 55 265cu. V8 was through the block.
I've seen oil pans before with the tube attached to the pan, but can't remember the applications. Some trucks?....Years unknown by me.
May be Roy knows . I'm sure someone does out there.

Karl
The early 56 Corvette had the dip stick tube as part of the pan.

Re: original 55 oil pan photos please
I have always thought the 50's blocks had the Dip Stick Tubes inserted into the block it's self. It would have to be riveted to the pan. I hope we are talking V-8 here. Have to be a special pan for clearing something.
It would have to have the wow (place where the dip stick passes through the block) to seal the opening. The block would have a plug or have never
been drilled for a dip stick tube.
The Chevrolet Parts and Accessories Catalog is what I am refering to.
Chassis...Effective February 1, 1961
1933-1961 PASSENGER CAR
1953-1961 CORVETTE
!933-1955 (1st Series) 1/2 TON thru 2 TON TRUCK
1955 (2nd Series-1961 1/2 TON thru 1 1/2 TON TRUCK
Shows the same part numbers that are in the 1953-1955 CORVETTE PARTS CATALOG Effective JULY 1, 1961
I still can't figure out how to post pictures with these posts.
